Get a good chili recipe. Not store bought crap. Or try a chicken and noodle recipe. Another would be ham and beans. Make enough to last a few days in the frig. These recipes can all be found online or in the Betty Crocker cookbook. Enjoy.

Well.... strangely enough ...in this chilly weather, I would say chili.
October is National Chili Month. SJSU is having a chili cook-off next week. PAMF is having one 10/26/06.
There are chili groups all over.
Check around. There are festivals and you can sample many types.
Try it. Chili doesn't have to be HOT. If done right, it warms your toes

Homemade vegetable beef soup is great!
Take a lean cut of beef and cut it in small cubes. Brown the meat and then drain it. Prepare a packet of Wyler's vegetable beef soup starter (or other soup starter mixes -- quantity and brands aren't important ) according the directions.
Then add the meat, a large can of crushed tomatoes, a bag of mixed soup vegetables, and your choice of some barley or uncooked tiny shell pasta. (You can even add left-over pasta or veggies, if you'd like, but put them in towards the end so that they don't overcook.)
Season to taste with onion and garlic salt, Worchestershire sauce, and sugar. Let simmer for several hours, adjust seasonings, and serve with hot rolls.

I like soup on really cold days, but not soup with clear broth, things like split pea soup.
2 cups vegetable broth
2 cups lentils
celery chopped fine
garlic chopped fine to taste
salt
pepper
and what ever other fine chopped vegetables you want.
Heat on low for hours and hours and hours until everything is soft, stiring often, or cook in a rice cooker until lentils are soft.
I like mine with warm bread. :) And some people add ham or pork to their soup as well.
Also chili is really good on a warm day. I'm lazy, I make my chili out of a can, but this place has a ton of good recipies.

Good luck cooking in your new cold climate!

Go to the store. There is all kind of ready made food or frozen food that can be heated. Try some soups.
