I'd rather have an atheist teacher than a Christian teacher. A Christian teacher forced us all to pray and gave my friend a lower grade because she refused.

Well since schools teach science, there's no conflict. The problem is when there's an attempt to pass off religious beliefs as science. Atheism isn't a religion, it makes no claims about the hereafter, spiritual matters etc. Religions are all based upon faith in something beyond this physical universe, something supernatural- beyond the capacity of science to prove or disprove.

There's nothing wrong with students studying religion in school, but schools cannot promote or endorse any set of religious beliefs above any other.

Are you kidding me? Religion isn't allowed to be taught in schools, for obvious reasons, because too many people believe in too many different things. But they don't bar Christians or Muslims from teaching curriculum approved by the board of education.
Religion is allowed past the school gate, of schools approved for religious studies.
You're question was ignorant, and worthy of a beep, beep, get on the bus, you're right is here.

No one says a person who is not an Atheists can not become a teacher they are just not allowed to speak of religion in schools. Just like Atheist teachers can not sit in class and talk/ teach their students that god don't exist.
So what are you even talking about?

Religion is NOT suppose to be in schools yet it is. It was not that long ago when I was in school and every day there was a group of kids and teachers who stood out in front of the school around the flag pool and would pray out loud every day we had school. Likewise when something bad would happen, like the death of one of our students or 9-11 they tell everyone to take a moment to "Pray for GOD to be with those who people and their family at those times in need." So see religion is still in schools!

Athiests are allowed to teach the same way anyone of any religious persuasion is. The mere fact someone does not believe in a god is quite immaterial. That as know bearing what so ever on their capability to teach.

That is just stupid... they don't teach religion. So with your reasoning then since Sunday school is classes for religion then they shouldn't exist either. Education is what gets people past this kinda ignorance. You should try some.

But teaching religion is specifically allowed in schools, except for trying to pass it off as science.

Maybe because they're not teaching religion. But the last I knew it was against the law to discriminate because of a persons religious beliefs.

No teacher in the public schools is supposed to impart his or her spiritual beliefs in the classroom. The teacher is there to teach the required curriculum.

It's too bad they can't keep idiots from being parents! You are probably the type that supports the firing of the Texas art teacher for taking her students to an art museum where they saw nude human forms in the art. The horror!!!

A closed mind is the devil's playground!

So you are saying that Christians aren't being allowed to teach?

Atheists aren't teaching atheism, dumbass. They are teaching the three R's, just like the Christians are.

People of all faiths are teachers, that doesn't mean they tell their class which way to believe. If they did, they wouldn't be their long. It's a silly question really. People are chosen as teachers on their education, not on faith in a particular religion or belief.
