Yes.
You can track fleas in on your clothes like dirt.
Get some Advantage or Frontline for the cat. You should vacuum twice this week and twice next week just to be sure the fleas don't breed and become an infestation.

I went through this when I moved into an apartment whose previous residents' pets had fleas (the management had shampooed the carpets, but didn't use flea killer). It only takes a few minutes with an infested animal or in a home that is infested with fleas to transfer them to a pet that was not previously plagued. If you think they came from another animal at your vet's office, it's time to find ANOTHER vet; if not, ask your vet to prescribe a flea treatment before things get out of hand. You will also have to treat your home if they are biting you and your family; there are a number of different products such as sprays, powders, "bug bomb" type aerosols, etc., that will take care of the fleas. Be sure to get one that kills the eggs as well as they adult fleas, and repeat it after three weeks just to be sure.

Fleas can come in through screens. Do your friends have dogs? Dogs pick them up on their walks. Some animals come into the vet with fleas too.
Get a flea comb right away and comb through the kitten to see if you find fleas. If you do you need to get flea treatment from a vet to put on your cat monthly. If your house has not been infested that should eliminate the fleas and you probably won't need to treat the cat till the weather gets warm again.

Yes! My cat and the house is totally infested, and my cat never goes outside. I used Frontline on the cat twice and I'm still being eaten alive by fleas. This must have been a horrible year for them.

Yes it only takes on trip to the vet with a cat or dog that had been in there with fleas. also fleas jump very high so unless you carry him when visiting friends he could've picked one or two up.

You can bring fleas in on your clothes, shoes and it doesn't take long to get fleas from being outside. Get some flea preventative from your vet and keep him on it all the time.

He probably picked up the flea outside. You'll need to treat him and the house before the problem gets serious.

Fleas can hitch a ride on your clothes, on your friends and their pets and get to your cat. So, yes, your cat can have fleas even if it never actually goes outside itself.
