The insurance rates in New Jersey are higher than any rates in the entire United States. I demand an answer to this outrage! It makes no sense that in California you can pay like $140 for the whole -year- to insure a car, while in NJ you pay like $140 every month.

One, I don't know WHO you've talked to about insurance in CA being 140 a year because it just isn't true, BUT. . .
New Jersey is seriously un-friendly regulation and red tape wise for insurance companies to deal with...
New Jersey is a no-fault state which means your insurance company will have to pay in the event of an accident almost without fail...
LOTS of people in Jersey go without auto insurance. . .
Fraud...misrepresentation...
PS...if you've not had insurance previously, $140 a month would actually be fairly reasonable for NJ!!

You are a citizen victim of the Peoples Republic of New Jersey. NJ is the # 1 most insurance hostile state in the US. All major compaines refuse to sell any new policies there because of the state ins. board and the governors office combative posture towards insurance providers. The situation is even worse with medical insurance. Until you voters wise-up and vote the damn socialists out of office you are going to live with high taxes, high fuel costs, high medical costs and even higher (when you can get it) insurance.

because NJ is a no fault state
and in any no fault state all parties pay dearly reguardless of fault
that means you get no discount for being a good driver
no fault go against the free capital system in that the good get rewarded ( lower rates ) and the bad do not ( highest rates ). you will have good and bad drivers in any given state, to "try" to equalize the feild by assigning all driver into the very same pool is to think that public school is on the very same level as private schools.

It could be due to accident rate being higher as a percentage of vehicle registered in the state. I could also relate to the actual cost of repairs being higher in the state.
