See the links below! (The third one is great for audio lessons!)
For actual books, heres some info on that too, just in case.
You could try 'Portuguese in 10 minutes a day' which is available in major bookstores in the language section. Its $15-20 and will start you off with a good vocab and basic understanding of the language.
My personal favorite is the Living Languages series, as I find it the most comprehensive and well layed out. That can be found at major bookstores too as well as amazon.com.

I'm a Portuguese native speaker, but still couldn't teach my husband, so went out and got this program. The tutor goes step by step with each word and pronounces the words very well and at the same time he can see the pictures and words on the screen. I can say that it is very helpful. Also try to speak Portuguese with native speakers that helps a lot.
I can't remember the cd name but he got it at best buy

Try books-a-million or a bookstore of the same type. And look for a Portugese/English or better yet an English to Portugese book. And let the studying begin. That was how I had to do it when I was assigned to the American Embassy many years ago in Lisbon, Portugal.
Or try Google and look up a P to E web site.

Problem with Portuguese is that it, like French, is not phonetic. Much of the sounds must be learned by hearing it, unlike Spanish which can "almost" be learned online. Best of luck.
