my first instinct is to say that it harkens back to Genesis 3:15 when God speaks to the serpent: "...your offspring and her offspring will be enemies. He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." (NLT) the offspring of Eve is referring to Jesus Christ, whose lineage is denoted in Matthew and Luke. God's plan was to redeem fallen humanity through one of their own, His Son who would be God incarnate on earth -- both deity and mankind at the same time. hope this helps!

The son of man was a reference to the 'Book of Daniel' where Daniel(in a vision) saw "one like the Son of Man coming to the Ancient of Days(God the Father) on clouds of glory".And also because of His taking on a "tent" of human flesh,to identify with the sons of Adam.

In ancient Hebrew names had alternate meanings. Eve meant giver of life, Adam meant man or man of the earth. Jesus was the son of God and the son of man (decended from Adam through Mary)
BTW Jesus is actually translated to English as Joshua, that name means "God among us" & Christ means "the Anointed one"

This is Jesus's ID that I found the most appealing. He spoke of himself as the son of man with the intention to stress his emphasis on God coming to us, to dwell in our midst. The gospel is about God longing to be in the company of humans and not about the divinization of women and men.

If u read the bible a li'l closer, it says He existed BEFORE God created heaven and earth. He just wasn't born til you know 0 b.c. :o] He is the son of man because he was first, because that is how God started us, by creating Him.

This phrase was used so we as humans could identify ourselves with his humanity as well as his divinity.
