In an older house, pipes may be joined with lead solder. The solder can leach lead into the water. This is only a problem with standing water. To be safe, run the tap for 30 seconds before collecting the water you use.
You can have your water tested for potentially harmful minerals.

Yes it is safe to cook with tap water. Most tap water now undergoes a lot of filtering before it even gets to your house.

No... it truly is proper... Dr. Andrew Weil stated that warm water from the tap loosens up better rust from the pipes because the water is dispelled and so better debris get into it... while chilly water does no longer supply off an same result.... it might also be fit to get a filter out on your kitchen tap... that way you could prepare dinner with filtered water.

If any germs or bacteria aer in your tap water, they will die with the heat.
However, because the water boils off as steam, the minerals are concentrated. Where I'm at, there is no affect on the flavor.
When I lived in Delaware, I put filters on ALL of my taps (bathroom included).
To see what's in your water, call DWP and request their Annual Report. You want to look for minerals and organics.

it depends on where you live some tap water isn't filtered or treated. we used to live off a river and it was to healthy to mess with straight out of the sink. but after you boiled it it was fine. when water is contaminated they tell u to boil it before using it. if u live in a city your water is safe to drink they take care of all the harmful bacteria for you. however if you live in a rural area then i would check with the water dept in your area to see where your water comes from. but no matter where u live its safe if u boil it.
happy cooking

Tap water is poison. Chlorine causes bladder cancer and the lead content is fairly high. Many older the pipes installed in the 50s were made from concrete and this contained asbestos. Find a decent spring and fill some jugs.

tap water if regulated by authorities is usually treated and considered safe for cooking by average u.s. standards I believe.
however, some tap sources may contain minerals which might change flavors or color of foods. This of course is only an opinion.
call your provider for a better overview and monitoring report of your tap water.

If your tap water is from a municipal supply, it is safe. If you are on a well, then you need to check with whoever tests the water. IF you are worried about some of the chemicals used to purify municipal water then you can use a filter system like Brita or Pur.
