Honestly.. there isnt one! There's things like drinking, that will numb YOU.. not your tooth! Your tooth will still be there, with you sober up, LOL.
If you have a tooth ache, go to your local dentist.. plain and simple. You just dont know whats going wrong with it. It could be all sorts of reasons behind it, and if you dont get it treated or fixed, your only hurting yourself in the long run, no one else. It could be something easy, that a simple filling can fix OR it could be something major. You wont know until you go. So gooooooo....

You definitely don't want to chew on aspirin.. I made that mistake years ago when my wisdom teeth came in. Not too wise huh?
Anyway....depending on your age, cloves are the answer. If you're a young child boil the cloves and dip a cloth into the solution and have the child suck on the cloth. If you're an adult you can put the clove directly on your tooth. In any case, don't do any home remedy for too long. I'm sure you know you must go see a dentist as soon as possible. Please don't make the same mistake I did throughout my life and put the dentist off. You'll totally regret it.
Best of luck to you, or whoever in your family has the toothache..

I am in the process of a horrible toothache myself but you can lessen the pain by taking a couple of tylonal (or advil, asparin, whatever you use for headache or pain. brew a cup of tea (Good strong tea, leave the tea bag in) slowly drink the tea holding the tea in your mouth a few secounds before swollowing, this is as good, in my opinion as the warm salt water remedy, which is also good. you can also take the tea bag out of the water and squeeze the excess water out and place the tea bag directly on the troubled tooth, there is something in tea, tannic acid that toughens up the gums and acts like a "number" you can also take an asparin and place it on the tooth too., until it desolves. It helps to be in a reclined position , prop your head up with pillows , make sure , even though it may hurt, to brush your teeth softly and use a full strength antiseptic mouth rinse several times a day to keep bacteria out of the sore tooth. avoid any cold drinks. even breathing with your mouth open can cause the tooth to throb with the intake of air. I sympathize with you, and believe me I tried it all . If you want to resort to an over the counter remedy Oragel medicated toothache swabs have given me relief too, they look like cotton buds(Q-tips) you snap the tip off and swab the other end that has a measured amount of novocaine in it to the bad tooth , good luck.

Cloves will numb the mouth. You can either use clove oil or whole cloves and just suck on them, or you can boil some cloves in water and when it cools, use it as a gargle, etc. In short, cloves will do the trick.
After you've numbed your mouth with cloves, make an appointment for the dentist right away and make sure that your tooth is not absesses; an absessed tooth can kill you.

Rub a wee bit of alcohol on the gums. It deadens the pain a bit.
