I have a sign to protect my animals in case of a fire. It is stuck on w/ a magnet. It cannot fall off. Yet every day, I come home and find it thrown on the ground. I am sure it is these rowdy, screaming kids that are running around in the evenings that are doing it.
Any thoughts? If I agitate them more, they may get violent and set the place on fire or something (exactly what I am afraid of--a fire--thus, the reason for the sign). Or they may kick the door down and all my cats will run out. Help! Apt office will not help; I know this already. Police station nearby but if no proof, what can they do? Stand there all day? Surely they have better things to do. I just feel these kids will become more violent. This is a sign of worse things to come. I've seen this behavior before. It is vandalism and they are only going to get worse if it continues.

By "kids" I mean teenagers...and it is not a "ridiculous" assumption b/c it has happened before.

Go to some kind of a "spy" store, and rent a video camera that is not obvious, and set it up. Not only will it give you the proof that you need, but it will give you the faces, if not the names, of the guilty parties. Then you will have the proof that you need to go to the cops. You can even get some stuff on the Internet, although I think that you might have to buy it. I work in a juvenile prison; I know exactly what you are saying. These kids probably would think it hilarious if your animals were injured or (God forbid) killled in a fire. The same goes for you. ABOVE ALL ELSE, make sure that you do not tell ANYONE that you have this equipment, not even after you catch them at it. Let the cops do that. Kids today, and yes, I realize that it is a generalization, are remorseless-- no, that's not the right word-- immune to the pain and the suffering of others. In fact, some even seem to feed of of it! Yet, the parents do nothing to discourage it, choosing to believe that their child cannot possibly be capable of that kind of behavior! Do what you must to protect you and yours, because there is no one else that care like you do!

Okay, if you're pretty sure these kids are taking the sign down, that's vandlesim and destruction of property. Get a picture of it somehow, or video tape it, then file a police report to your local law enforcement. They'll go door to door to figure out who the cluprit on the tape is because photographs/videos don't lie ^^ good luck with these kids/teens. I'm a teenager but you don't see me messing with your sign ^^ I'm giving advise. I think a lot of it has to do with parenting.

Ahem... the main key here is "you think". Are you absolutely sure it was these kids? If you want to report it to the police, you should at least get a video recording of the action. But if you can't be positive and haven't caught them in the act, don't go to the police about it.
One more thing... are you sure it can't fall off? Please don't blame everything on teenagers all the time...

I would get a hidden video camera so this can be recorded. I don't think it is that expensive. Hopefully the police will do something about it, because they are probably too busy handing out parking tickets and eating donuts.

If you know who these kids are, Inivte their parents and the kids over for dinner and treat them good. Whenever you see the kids give them a candy or something. They probably will think twice before doing ti again.

You should rig a shotgun on the other side of the door and tie a string from the trigger to the sign so it goes off when they try and remove it.
