I think we all enjoy watching pool on TV. However, do you agree that TV gives us an exaggerated view on just how good the pros really are? For instance, if you watch a 9-ball match, race to 7, that's a potential of 13 games. They have one hour to show the match, so after player introductions, commercials, presentation of the check, etc., you have about 35-40 minutes of pool. They rarely show long safety battles or missed shots. What you end up seeing are the matches where they break and run out or pocket the 9 on the break. This gives the impression that the pros almost never miss and almost always have successful break shots. This is not to slight their skill and ability. They are truly great players, but I think it would be good to show how they are also human and make mistakes like the rest of us. I know they have to keep it exciting and quick, but I think that real students of the game would like to see it all, good and bad. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
