It would be best if you saw an allergist and they recommended a type of medication that is specifically good for you, what you are allergic to and your symptoms. Otherwise, with a family of 5 and we all have different allergies, I would have to say that benadryl works the best if you can withstand the bothersome side effects. (mainly drowsiness.) It is also very safe, it is even ok for pregnant women to take in most cases.

make sure whichever you opt for the at least 12 hour if not 24 hour formula antihistamine due to the fact that histamines last 7 hours if your medicine is take every 4-6 hours it is wearing off before the histamines do so you will suffer between dosings.

Anything with diphenhydramine in it is an anti-histamine and will work for allergies but this is over the counter if you have serious allergies go see a doctor I am on zyrtec for allergies and asthma and it works wonders for me!!!
