Very rare disease but my father has it and is very depressing. Do you know someone that has it and can be an inspiration to him? Thanks!

If I were you, I would look up Multiple Myeloma on the web and read the info from the American Cancer Society. I have it and I did that. It helps. The best thing I can suggest is fight like heck. Depression does not help. Force yourself to eat - even if it is several small meals each day. The disease is not curable but is treatable.

A good food that's easy to tolerate is Ensure (chocolate) very cold, Watermelon, any fresh fruit such as blueberries or grapes.

Hi,

I will actually ANSWER the question you asked.

I know LOTS of people with MM; WE have a great on line support group - if you have your dad (or you) call the IMF they can help you with contacts, online support groups, information, answer your questions and even some local support groups (depending on where you live)

Hotline:

Call our toll free hotline—staffed by NCI-trained specialists—at (800) 452-CURE (800-452-2873) in the US and Canada between 9 am and 4 pm PST; elsewhere call (818) 487-7455. You can also contact us via the web. www.myeloma.org

I have had it for almost 3 years and still doing well, I know people that have had it for over 10 years and are also doing well.

Good luck.

With bone marrow transplant this type of cancer can go into remission for years. It is important to be aggressive w/ treatment and be knowledgeable about new therepys. You may want to ask your dads Doctor if there are any clinical trails that he/she is aware of. I just recently lost a dear friend to this type of cancer he was diagnoised in 1998. Good luck and god bless.
