Fill the 5 gal bucket, pour all you can into the 3 and then dump that out, --- pour the rest of the 5 into the 3 (now 2 gals of water in the 3 gal bucket) ---- refill the 5 gal bucket and pour just enough into the 3gal bucket to fill it.--- this leaves 4 galllons in the 5 gallon pail

Empty the 3 gal. bucket on the ground and pour 1 gal. out of the 5 gal bucket. This will leave you with four gallons.

1. Fill 5G bucket
2. Fill 3G bucket with 5 G bucket
3. You should have a full 3G bucket and a 5G bucket with 2G water
4. Dump out 3G bucket
5. Empty remaining water from 5G bucket into 3G bucket
6. You should have empty 5G bucket and 2G water in 3G bucket
7. Fill 5G bucket full with water
8. Fill 3G bucket to the top with water from 5G bucket

*Becuase water from 3G bucket is 2/3 full, it requres one more gallon to become full. If you use ur 5G bucket to fill up 3G, you take away 1G from the 5G bucket leaving you with 4G left in the 5G bucket.
