I too can find absolutely no humour in american programmes. I truly cannot think of one american TV show that even makes me smile.
That grey haired bloke is funny in some of his films, what`s his name, Steve Martin and that other chap, the Jewish one who ran off with his Chinese step daughter, he has a rather acerbic wit. Oh ! They did make that Police Squad thing, that had a funny ending to one of the episodes, I remember laughing at it, I cannot for the life of me remember why, but it is mostly slapstick and requires little intellect to enjoy. I suppose they just like things light and easy over there.
As for the person who enquired whether we found Benny Hill funny, that was nearly 50 years ago now, our grand parents probably sat on the settee laughing like drains at his antics, but, things have changed somewhat since then.
Extras was on tonight...a good example I think of current British humour.

its a different kind of humour. british is mainly "tongue-in-cheek" humour. American comedy tends to be more physical or sarcastic. And why would you judge the entire american population because of some questions/answers on a board?? Many people in america find "british humour" just as funny as "american humour" you should stop judging! or maybe your "superior sense of humour" is what makes YOU miss some of the humour in things ... good~luck with that. but to me both senses of humour are equal just DIFFERENT!! sooo keep on making assumptions because you know what they say you do when you assume things ... adios!

Unfortunately the American school system is designed to keep the majority of Americans ignorant, so unless a joke leaps out, grabs them by the throat and shakes them really hard, or a guy with a big board on it saying 'laugh now' walks past them, they really miss the joke!!
Please note also that British children find American sitcoms funny, which shows the age level of the average American joke! Fortunately most of our children grow out of it!!

It's just a different one. I am a Brit now living in the States for 14 years, and it is true they do not find the same stuff funny. But they do laugh alot, just not at the same stuff.
That's why I come back to British websites and info, I need my Brit fix.

i think of humorousness develops contained in the comparable way as the different character trait; this is, it truly is a fabricated from our genes, our ecosystem, and our reports. it truly is humorous which you suggested your puppy, because of the fact my puppy is the funniest concern i've got ever are available the time of. each so often she's so ridiculous, i think of to myself, "She had to have customary what she develop into doing in basic terms then!" yet i comprehend realistically she's in easy terms a organic goofball. i'm uncertain off of what you need to even base your assumption that individuals are not getting irony. united statesa.'s a reasonably great and diverse place, you comprehend? i could say that generalization has as plenty benefit because of the fact the yank assumption that Brits have atrocious oral hygiene. So take that as you will.

I am an American, and I kind of agree, although we have some funny people.
Eddie Murphy
George Carlin
Dave Attell
Do you know these guys? But the average American doesn't really get good humor.

Odd, why is that we Americans find 99.9% of all Brits to be Stuck up? Maybe its their attitudes.
By the By my cheeky fellow. Us Americans are funny, your sense of humor just isn't as developed as ours so our jokes go way over your head.

I do appreciate British humour and do not appreciate certain kinds of jokes you can find much too often in some American movies.
