I tend to see a pattern on this site. The religion of Christianity is often argued, bashed, critisized, and spoken harshly against compared to any other religion. Granted, i have seen quite a few people degrade those of the Islamic and Jewish faiths as well, but not to the great extent as that of Christianity. I also have noticed that when a Christian speaks back to defend their faith, they are critized for trying to convert?
Why is this?
Why is it wrong to defend your faith, or to have faith at all?
And does it seem that some athiests on this site want to convert Christians than vice versa?
please, honest and serious answers only

just a fun, small, fyi type of info.
The phrase"seperation of church and state" is not a law, it is not in our constitution, and it never has been, it was only mentioned in a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to a friend. I also know that to fully understand what was meant, you need to read the letter.

Because Atheism is a faith as well! A faith is defined as believing in something you cannot prove. No one can prove the existence of God. But, by His very nature, no one can disprove him, either. As passionate as you are about your faith, so are they about theirs. As to why some of the lesser grades of human tend to get on here and spout either hate or over-zealous rants, it's because the Internet is both a giant communication medium and a giant bathroom stall. You get insight with graffiti. Just ignore it like you would "Mike wuz here '99" and absorb the valuable stuff.
Just don't forget to wash your hands.

I don't expect to convert any Christians to atheism, but I would love it I could influence some Christians to be a little more open minded to alternate views, and especially modern knowledge obtained through science. I'm here because I am very concerned that the U.S. is on a path to becoming a theocracy. Christians have a persecution complex and claim that they are discriminated against. They claim that it is discrimination that the U.S. Constitution (as interpreted by "activist liberal judges") prevents them from teaching their religious views in public schools. It is a ridiculous claim for many reasons. But since the U.S. is already well over 2/3rds Christian they might get their way anyway! If they do, the U.S. has become a theocracy.
I know there are a lot of rational Christians who understand the value of true religious freedom and support the separation of church and state. If these Christians would speak up more and become a moderating force on the extremist Christians, then the problem would be solved, and I would lose interest in being here.

It's not wrong to defend your faith. But the overly pious are the ones that insist that unless you believe as they do, then you're wrong. There are no degrees of faith, just Christian and "Going to Hell." The reason Christianity is put down so much is that Christians try to force themselves down others' throats and call you stupid when you don't like it.
What does get tiring are the mindless hordes of Christians that think quoting bible scripture will convert everyone. That's illogical and arrogant! And how EVERY serious question comes down to interpreting "the Lord's word" to suit the needs of the individual.
There are decent people of Christian faith here, and if it makes you a better person then good for you. But I WILL NOT adopt Christianity in ANY form just because of a website full of scripture-quoting parrots and threats of eternal pain & torture! Just doesn't sound appealing to me.
I choose to do something good with my life every day that I'm here, instead of raping, stealing, lying and killing because I'll be "forgiven" in the afterlife. And I don't need a god to do it.

Christianity is attacked because it makes people uncomfortable. It takes the Word of God, and shines it on the world, so that everyone can see themselves for what they really are, and can no longer hide behind their own oppinions and ideas. Every person in the world uses their mind to create their own worldveiw (or more accuratly, their own world), and no one likes to find out they don't know everything, or that they are actually accountable to Someone greater than they are.
Or, as the Bible puts it in John 3:19-21~ "Now this is the basis for judging: that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed. But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God."

Atheists won't admit it, but it's nothing more than an inferiority complex manifesting itself against something it cannot fathom.
Anyone with an inferiority complex feels they have to prove that nobody is better than them, particularly those who they hold in low esteem.
An atheist with an inferiority complex becomes enraged against Christians because Christians say they're anointed with God's Holy Spirit and are in the way that leads to life.
Since they themselves can't bear to be outdone, they must use whatever tactics at their disposal to launch ad homonym attacks against Christians in an attempt to make themselves appear as the superior intellect.
In essence, therefore, it's nothing more than immature ego being flexed.
For a textbook example of this principle being played out, simply read the answer which follows below:

True, however after 50, one hundred, one hundred fifty unhealthy encounters with whites, a discriminated towards black guy in southern the us would begin to keep a grudge towards them. Christians can rarely cry discrimination because the dominant faith in America. After all, this is a christian slogan at the foreign money "in god we believe", and all tuition kids are compelled to pledge alleigance to the us "beneath god", and it's the christians who're looking to rewrite biology in kansas and different states, forcing pupils to take delivery of creationism or face failing grades on checks...it is the christians who name atheists evil humans with out morals, even though, it's the fundamentalists who're liable for making essentially the most noise.. By definition we do not particularly listen from the moderates (that is how it must be). If you are a mild, that is quality, however allow humans who're being indignant talk, rather of telling them to sit down quietly and take it. Better but, begin noticing simply what number of christians consider that freedom of faith way freedom to train _their_ faith.

We Christians are evil, wicked people in the eyes of fervent athiest although they claim their is no evil or wickedness because to admit that would mean there is a God. It is so funny, because they are so easy to trap. You ask them, is their a right and wrong? That's when they begin to squirm, they no there is a right and wrong. You continue on, is it ok for a man to rape a 10 year old? Certainly it's wrong they say. So you are willing to admit there are blacks and whites and rights and wrongs? They squirm some more. And where suppose did the idea of right and wrong come from my Athiest friend? Could you call that rape a sin? Not a leg to stand on does the unbeliever have if you strip him down. BUT THEY LOVE TO BASH, because in bashing they take out their anger on us, because they don't want to be told what to do, which scripture of course does.

Well, from what I can tell, (and Im not speaking from any religion) alot of the people that get bashed in here are because they are trying to cram their beliefs into peoples head. Sometimes I get the feeling that they think they are better than everyone else. Everyone seems to want to convert everyone, and when it doesnt work, they get bashed.
Me, well Im happy the way I am. I myself dont have a religion, but I believe in God, and believe that if you are good you will go to a better place.
I think alot of people in here tend to judge, when in fact, who are they to judge? It is He in the end that will judge.
But if they dont believe in God, well then thats their perogative.
Who really knows what happens after death?

I have been an atheist for 30 years. I do not go out looking for debates or arguments against religious people. I dont wear a sign around my neck that says I DONT BELIEVE IN GOD! I dont make it a point to tell everyone I meet what I believe or dont elieve. I really only divulge my beliefs when someone asks me what they are. (and here is where your question comes in) When I do tell religious people that I am an atheist it is like I am the lowest form of life on Earth. These people talk to me in ways that just amaze me. They tell me I am wrong, that I will go to hell for not believing. I am treated as an outcast. These are usually Christian people, who are supposed to be forgiving, and full of kindness and love for their fellow man and yet they treat me like dirt because I dont believe what they believe.
I dont bad mouth their religion. I dont "blaspheme" their god. I just tell them I dont believe and I get s*** upon. So, the atheist you say "bashing" are probably defending themselves by attacking the people who attacked them first. Try it. Tell a Christian you dont believe. See what kind of reaction you get. You will understand why atheists have to use what we can to defend our opinions

Because Christianity is the largest segment of Western society. Similar to Catholicism within Christianity. People naturally like to beat on the largest group. They feel they can not be bigoted if they pick on the largest group. False of course, but sadly true.
