Casually. Just go do things with him, as you would (and probably have) "as friends". Hang out, grab a bite... keep him company, drop subtle hints.. he'll get the idea. If not, after a few outings, you'll have to tell him in no uncertain terms that you're into him, and you need to know if he thinks you two would work as a thing.

If they JUST broke up and were very serious- you might want to consider giving it sometime. If it was a shortlived casual thing, it kind of depends on your age. You could just kind of spend more time hanging out together and see if things happen from there or if your older, I would say go for it and ask him to a movie or something and just kind of mention that your so really glad that he is now available to be in the dating pool again. :-)
See how it goes from there.

best friend do you want to chance messing that relationship up? well if you think you have a chance then go for it but if he says no be understanding and dont get to upset remember he is just getting out of a relationship. i wish you luck and hope you get the guy i have a feeling you could make it work if you are already good friends.

you might want to give a him minute or two before you pounce on him. he did just get out of a relationship. the best thing you can do is be a friend to him right now and who knows what that could lead to. so hold off and trying to nab you a man for now and just be there for him in whatever way you can

Maybe give him some room to regroup and just be there as his friend for awhile.

You'll be the first girl after his break-up and the odds aren't too good.

just ask him to got get something to eat sometime. Expect him to not be over his last relationship yet. Beware... It may become a rebound thing and won't last if you go too fast so move slow.

If he just broke up with his girlfriend shouldn't you wait for him to be over her or something?

Actually, a bit more detail would be nice...
