Some like words, but for a tattoo, I feel that there are few expressions one would like in their youth and still like when they are older, although that may depend on the person. Remember, when you are choosing a tattoo, you need to choose it for life - do not depend on a removal later if you desire it.

Symbols can evoke many different expressions in those who see it, plus some of them look cool. Simple is best, for complicated symbols tend to say too much, thus increasing the liklihood later in life you will decide you don't like the tat. Get a book of symbols or better yet, check it out online, I am sure there are some symbol repositories out there. Just make sure it is saying something that is not coming from your youth, which goes away, or your passion, which also may pass as you age through life, but maybe something that speaks of power (a greek letter maybe), struggle or opposition (yin-yang anyone?), or religion (crosses or stars), for these things are, more or less, constant in a person's life. If you choose a religious symbol you believe in, make sure you are wholly committed to that religion. Change is a constany among youth and even people in their 20s and 30s. Make sure your choice will be resistant to that.

The best tatoo to get is an original one. They usually are designed by the tattoo artist on the fly and some of these guys / girls have some wicked imaginations.

I would say none, as when you are 80 years old it will look pretty minging. If you are really keen remember they are addictive. I don't know one person who has just had one tatoo only!

One of my mates has his date of birth in Roman numerals right down his rib cage on right hand side of body. Does look cool at the moment, cant wait to see him in 60 years though

dude, rule one,(even ask the tattoo guy) don't get a chick's name- unless its your daughter or kid. They do so many cover-ups for names that seemed like a good idea at the time. Don't get a spider on your forehead. Ppl will keep smackin ya and it may limit career opportunities. Consider elephant ears on your hips. That's a good one. Or ask for a tattoo over your whole body surface of you - except taller-- if they can pull that one off - it will be worth it. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Oh and one more thing - tats on girls are disgusting. So repulsive - I'm tellin ya, any guy worth settling down with always regard them as a 'flatback' who was surely used and abused by the local chapter of the hells angels. Reeel nice.

This is kind of a silly question because whatever you get should REALLY mean something to you, not just be what someone else says would be cool. I have 4 tattoos, and had one covered up because the first one I got I just got to be "cool" and it meant nothing so years later I thought I hate this and had it covered with a different one. On another note though, TATTOOS ROCK!!!!!!!

Well, if you wanna get something big it will be more of a pain... my opinion is to get something small but noticeable.
If you like music maybe get some notes .
If you like a certain footy team, get there logo.
If you like a certain band or person.
what colours do you like?
And if your still not quite sure, get one of those tatoo booklets. They have AL sorts of colours sizes, goodluck with finding one.

if you have no idea what you want, then wait and wait and wait until you are postitive that you want one, and which one you want. If you decide that you absolutely NEED one no matter what, definitely get one that you KNOW you would want on your body for the rest of your life. Something with a personal meaning to you. When you find the one that is right for you... you'll know. I never wanted a tattoo, and my twin sister wanted to get matching ones with me. I always told her absolutly no way, until I found the right one. We just got matching little bucking broncos on our right hips. SO cute. I'm glad I waited.

If you don't have a strong idea of what you want for your tattoo you really have no business getting one. Just wait until inspiration strikes, the things are permanent after all.

Hi!

I would get something a little artistic... or something in your taste that will not change as you grow older...

Things to avoid... cartoon characters and names (unless they are you children's names... or even mom's name... they will always be your children and mom will always be your mom.)

Go to the tattoo parlors and look around... take your time. Remember, a tattoo is forever (and it will still be on your skin even after your spirit has left your body.) So take your time in choosing one.

Best Wishes...
T.
