Depends how much resistance or speed you have on the machine.

I'll take a guess though... let's see.. I did cycling/spinning classes and I noticed an increase in muscles on my legs in about a month. the classes were much more intense than the elliptical.. I would give maybe a month (if you are putting a lot of effort) or two (moderate effort) before you start noticing a good difference. Light effort may take a lot longer.

It depends on what kind of results you're expecting.
Elliptical workouts will burn fat and strengthen your thighs, but don't expect your thighs to look toned right away.
It sounds like you're expecting your thighs alone to show results.
Sorry to break the news to you,but you're not going to see results on ANY part of your body if you have an all-over high fat content.
You need to cut down your fat intake, and increase your fat burning excercises before you get any kind of noticable benefits.
There is no workout that will target fat on any part of your body.Fat has to be burned off your ENTIRE body before muscle toning excercises pay off!
