my cat has been eating chocolate since he was a few months old. My friends been telling me that chocolate and cat's stomach dont mix well... will it affect my cat in any way?

Hi there...chocolate contains theobromines which concentrated amounts can be fatal. Please discontinue feeding your cat any chocolate as this would ultimately be medically expensive to treat or worse life ending for your kitty.

Face it, many cats love chocolate. And, because we love chocolate too, we have probably contributed to our pets' taste for this treat. But for cats, this 'treat' can be deadly.
Chocolate toxicity is one of the most common 'poisonings' we see in veterinary clinics, especially during the busy holiday season (and Valentine's Day). We know to keep that chocolate box especially for guests or that gift box of chocolates out of Fluffy's or Fido's reach. But it is easy to overlook holiday baking with its more deadly chocolate forms – semisweet chips and baking chocolate.
Some cats tolerate chocolate better than others. Although the toxic dosage varies from animal to animal, everyone agrees that chocolate contains a lethal ingredient, a methylxanthine called theobromine, and that baking chocolate contains 10 times more of this lethal ingredient than milk chocolate.
Theobromine acts on four areas of your cat's body:
It increases the rate and force of contractions of the heart.
It acts as a diuretic, causing your pet to lose body fluids.
It affects the gastrointestinal system, causing vomiting and diarrhea and it may cause stomach ulcers.
It acts on the nervous system, causing convulsions, seizures and sometimes, death.
If you find that your cat has ingested some chocolate, call your veterinarian or emergency clinic immediately. They will probably ask you the size of your cat, the type and quantity of chocolate your cat has eaten, and how long ago it was eaten. Try to have these answers before you call. They then may tell you to make your cat vomit. This will depend on the amount of chocolate ingested and how long ago it was eaten. If your veterinarian or emergency clinic determine that your cat needs to come into the hospital, do not delay. The effects of chocolate toxicity may not be apparent right away, but do not let that lull you into a false sense of security.

An ingredient in chocolate can be fatal to cats. Most chocolate does not have much of that ingredient, except for very dark chocolate. But it is a terrible idea to give chocolate, or even most human foods to a cat, as they are really set up for their own dietary needs. When cats start getting used to human food, they tend to then start to get obese, as it becomes junk food for them. So stop the chocolate, and try and stop her from being a table scrap beggar. She will have a much better life with less problems, and you will have fewer problems when you eat.

Yes. Chocolate contains Theobromine which is poisonous to cats and dog. 3 oz. baking or 1.5 lbd milk chocolate can kill a 20 lbd dog or cat. Stop tempting fate!

Yes, chocolate is bad for your cat. It causes your cat's heart to beat erratically, and increases urine production. The darker the chocolate, the higher the concentration of theobromine, the chemical that can harm your cat. High enough quantities can kill your cat, and it doesn't take very much. Please don't give it to him anymore.

There are cat treats that are chocolate-flavored on the market. I've found even those can result in stool irregularities you might find distressing.
Regular chocolate, even in small amounts, can kill a cat. Don't do it!

Chocolate effects dogs really bad. I haven't heard anything about cats. I could only assume you'll have a hyper sugar filled cat though!

I have also heard that chocolate is bad for animals in general. You should call a vet and ask them instead of relying on heresay.

chocolate is not good for them i would stop feeding it to my cat if nothing has happened so far im sure he will be fine but dont feed him anymore...

Well cats are famously lactose intollerent for the safty of your nose you might not want to feed cats chocolate
