I think they're nice people and they don't keep their knowledge to themselves although many are just lazy members, no offense.

Actually, any religious group is a cult. definition of cult:
1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7. the members of such a religion or sect.
Funny how many christians just kinda pick number 6 as the definition of "cult". Any religious sect is .. well, just read the definition. Online dictionary - and regular paperback dictionary. Look it up ;)
Just another in a long line of misconcepted words passed down from religious leader to pupils to poor kids to their poor kids.
here is the link to a thesaurus, as well for the word cult...
interesting. Also, on the same page, just click dictionary. Look at the older definitions, then the newer "revised" definitions lol. Sounds familiar.

A cult is a small group of people who share a common system of religious beliefs that are not accepted by the larger population. If enough people join in the belief, the religion gets acceptance and becomes mainstream. If enough people don't join, the cult dies out and people forget about it. Every single Protestant denomination began as a cult. Its not a negative term, its just a description.
Adventists believe in celebrating the Sabbath on Saturday. Nearly all other Christian denominations celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday. This and a few other beliefs mean that they have beliefs not shared by the majority of other Christians. They are also a relatively small denomination. They meet the two criteria for a cult.

Hey, I'm an Adventist! Kool question!
LARRY S: THAT IS SOOO NOT TRUE. WE DO WORSHIP JESUS CHRIST AND HIM ALONE!!!
Here's an excerpt from an SDA Bible study:
When I join His family through faith, what change does Jesus make in my life?
Jesus' power changes a repulsive sinner into a loving saint.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Answer: As Christ is received into my heart, He destroys the old sinful self and actually changes me into a new spiritual creation. The old life of sin now becomes repulsive and undesirable. Joyfully I begin to experience, for the first time, glorious freedom from guilt and condemnation. I begin to see how empty my life has been without Christ. Rather than feeding on husks under the table, I now feast at the banquet of the King. One minute with God provides more happiness than does a lifetime of serving the devil. What an exchange! Why did I wait so long to accept it?

I could look up cult in the dictionary, but IMHO, I think that any "religion" that tries to copy Christianity. Religions that call themselves Christian, yet they don't believe that CHRIST, Jesus Christ, is the Son of God and there is salvation only thru Him. That being a Christian is trying to emulate Christ.
So many people will build doctrine based on one Bible verse. They pick and choose which parts of the Bible they'll believe. These are churches I call cults.
I was talking to a guy at work that said he was a Christian, and I asked him if he believed in Jesus and he said "no". I asked him if he knew where the word "Christian" came from?
Does any of this make sense?

They do not look at what kind of people they are, they only look at what they believe. I don't consider Adventists a cult, but then that's just me.

"Cult" doesn't really have a definition when used in that sense. It is like trying to analyze what "jerk" means. It is merely an insult.
