I think 'god' is always there -- is the very essence of us but does not 'know' us as these individual psychological personalities and bodies. And that the only thing that blocks us from realizing this is the grasping of the mind to this 'self'. People like Jesus and the Buddha have had the experience of enlightenment and therefore become symbols for the rest of us.

Not at all, and it's not at all logical to think so. For example, Buddhists don't even believe in a God at all. They don't believe in any sort of essence. Hindus think that God is a part of everything, and Christians think that God is seperate and made the Earth. Why would God deceive one group of people? How about the reincarnation/heaven/hell controversy? Do you think that God lied to some people about being reincarnated, either that they are or that they aren't? If Jesus is God, why would he still be perfectly happy with the Jews and think that they are correct, too? If you believe Islam, then why would God have come as Jesus, because that is an offense: the all powerful God can't have a son. Just think about it.

YES!! What a lot of people don't understand, is that the term "God" is a title, like mother, father, sister or brother. God has many names and depending on what part of the hemisphere you live on, it might be a little different. I believe that religion has many different paths and everyone has their own way to get to the ultimate blissful heaven.

God is not an unfair God, so why would he/she/it da*n people to hell simply because they were raised around something other than Christianity? What about indigenous tribes? They worship too, but they are not Chritians, they are simply spiritual and have been following the same pratices for hundreds of years. Is that their fault?

No, I think the Devil comes in different forms to deceive people with false religious teachings so that he won't be all alone when he gets tossed into the Lake of Fire.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone where also the Beast and the False Prophet are. And they shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.

11 Then I saw a great white throne and He who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled. And no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened the books. And another Book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged by the things having been written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to their works. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death, the Lake of Fire. 15 And if anyone was not found having been written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the Lake of Fire.

In terms of probability, this idea is a definite maybe. In other words, it seems much more likely than the idea of some rigidly dogmatic deity with nothing better to do than take pleasure watching his creations suffer in some mythical hell. On the other hand, this is exactly the kind of openness and uncertainty that drives Christians nuts. They trip all over themselves to demonstrate just how intolerant they can be. If they weren't so pathetic, it would actually be quite funny.

Not quite so.
God is God!
Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth as a baby, born of the Virgin. He walked the earth for 33 years. He was fully human and fully God.
During His three year ministry, He gathered a group of followers, His Disciples, who carried on His work after His crucifiction, resurrection and ascention into heaven. God uses Christians to reach more people, and some times, Angels Unaware.....................

Buddha is a god, a Satan made man adopted god.

Great Question. I like to believe that all paths lead to one.
I cannot accept in my heart that people that live their entire lives respecting all living things would burn in some fiery pit for eternity because they did not follow a Christian God.

"Religion is like a large elephant surrounded by several blind men. One man touches his tail and thinks it’s a rope. Another touches his trunk and thinks it’s a snake. Another touches his leg and thinks it’s a tree. Yet another touches his side and thinks it’s a wall. They are all experiencing the same elephant, but are experiencing him in very different ways. The same goes for God and the various religions."

God is a being. Some people believe that it is just a feeling from within and some don't believe at all. Look at creation around you and in the universe. The more you learn, the more it couldn't have just been formed on its own.
