A lot of stupid answers. Ignore them all apart from the one to try Imodium. That is OK in the short term. If you've had this a long time. Then it could be a lot of things. You need to get it under control and then see a specialist to determine the cause. Try codeine phosphate - ask your doctor for it. The maximum dose is 240 mg in 24 hours. You can take codeine phosphate and imodium. Imodium is in 2 mg tablets and you can take up to 8 in 24 hours. If it goes better when you are asleep and doesn't wake you - it probably stress related. If it wakes you - it may be an infection - get an antibiotic from your doctor - a good broad spectrum antibiotic is Ciproxin. You should sent a "sample" to pathology at the hospital for them to identify the infection and tell you which antibiotic is the best. But That usually takes bloody ages - so you might as well assume it's probably camplobacter and take Ciproxin! If you are getting a lot of abdominal pain too an antispasmodic will help like hyoscine butylbromide - start with 10mg tds ( 3 times a day ) then 20mg tds after you have got used to them. Obviously, if it's bad drink plenty of fluids. You can also get re-hydration sachets of salts - but you probably don't need that unless you've had diarrhoea for some time. One last thing - don't eat anything you think is upsetting you! Fried food, greasy food and milk are the usual suspects.

could be a number of things, from parasites to chron's disease to stress. Can also be caused by too little bulk, ( fibre) in diet. Make sure that your diet contains a good balance of Fibre and fluid. Only rely on over the counter diarrhea for a very short time, as these can complicate matters. They only remove excess fluid or reduce motility of movement not cure. My suggestion is to consult a health professional of it has been going on for more than a couple of days. Hope that helps

See your doctor if diarrhoea lasts for longer than three days or is followed by bouts of constipation, as this could indicate a serious problem.

Otherwise, plenty of fluids, and just wait it out. Immodium can help if it's really uncomfortable, but that's up to you.

Good luck, and hope you feel better soon. :D

First of all chronic diarrhea probably has a organic cause such as colitis. You need to see a doctor. If you have it occasionally you could use Immodium or try the BRAT diet which consists of bananas rice apple sauce and tea.

You likely have Irritable Bowel Syndrome as opposed to colitis as suggested by others. IF you have colitis you would see blood and have a lot of pain with your diarrhea.
Yes continue to drink a lot of water. Immodium is the drug of choice to stop the diarrhea.
Be certain by submitting bowel contents samples to the lab via your doctor that it isn't caused by a bacteria that you picked up travelling somewhere.
Good luck!

Go to the Chemist and get some "ARRET" (possibly need to excuse spelling, but it's French for 'stop')

I had been in the room for three days in Spain with 'd&v' and my hubby was advised to buy Arret; he did - I took it - within 5 hours I was tucking into my first food for 4 days!

The BRAT diet.

Banannas
Rice
Apples
Tea

This is something that you do need to see a physician about, though... ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT A CHILD.

People, especially kids, can get dangerously dehydrated from diarrhea... even to the point of death.
