Such a thing is not possible. Thermodynamics prevents it. Any such device would be capable of producing energy forever, which would allow for the reversal of entropy on the universal scale.
Since the universe is a closed system, anything that reverses entropy on that scale is impossible.
And you are right. Friction. Friction of the air on the blades, friction of the air moving against itself, friction of the blades against the bearings, lots of friction.

No one has ever come close enough to actually do it, which is saying something. Note the disturbing lack of any faith whatsoever from anybody that perpetual motion is possible.
Against all odds, I actually have some designs myself, which I will insist are several degrees superior to spinning a top with a motor.
My perpetual/ continuous/ over-unity/ free energy CONCEPTS (with emphasis) can be found at
http://www.nathancoppedge.com/Perpetual_Motion.html
If I could build a working model of one design in particular I would probably know once and for all that there is no future with perpetual motion. However, little details keep nagging me, telling me "Why not?".

in case you define a "perpetual action device" as a device it is often in action, that i could placed my money on the deep area probes that have escaped the photograph voltaic gadget. jointly as the Voyager and Pioneer probes for sure won't shuttle continuously, they ok could out survive no longer basically the sunlight and earth, yet people as a species. With plenty empty area to glide with the aid of, it may choose for billions of years.

we need to stop looking at this machine as an engine that burns free energy, impossible. a better alternative is to look at "free batteries" like geo wells. if you drill into the earth you get free warm water. here in canada it is often used to heat homes, the heated water is free , just an electric pump to power flow. imagine free warm water , effeciency is lost as you convert heat energy in the water to say electrical energy , but if the energy is there it can, and is being harvested.

Check out Joseph Newman (maybe Neuman) in Texas. He built a machine that generates nearly-free electricity, and it was featured on Johnny Carson.
He tends to go on about his religious beliefs, but he did build this machine. The U.S. Patent Office refuses to even look at it, claiming it can't possibly work, but it has been patented in other countries.

Check out a Stirling Engine, a very efficient engine which derives its mechanical motion from a thermal gradient.

"Energy cannot be created nor destroyed" -Law of conservation
Of course that's a theory. Our best bet is somehow extracting energy from magnets, which can't happen (yet) because there is no possible way of shielding them.

been there, done that! it works great, it's easy when you know what the errors are in the 'laws' of thermodynamics
