What would you better have an enemy or a good friend. Sometimes when people lose their feeling of strong attraction or even love, they chose to stay friends because ex's can be very close friends.
Even though you do not share same feelings when you were going out such people can be very close and become best friends, why you think sometimes people go out with their best friends (from opposite sex of course), who they knew for over 2 years lets say or whatever.
Some people want to be friends some just stuff it and ignore you but if you in the same school, college, work or whatever, you can't just break up and ignore each other because you will see each other almost every day.
On the other hand some people feel uncomfortable when they meet with their ex and that is why they don't want to keep in touch or become friends.

Hope that explains it, Wolfy.

Women do the same thing, and they do it much more often than men. When I break up with someone, I do not usually associate with them again. Most men prefer it that way. Women invented the line "let's just be friends" to avoid feeling guilty about breaking up with men they do not like. But usually they do not really want to be friends after the breakup either. I don't know what that idiot is thinking, but you two should both move on with your lives. Good luck!

The reason is that men are really bad at feelings and emotions. They do not understand that after making a committment like that it is impossible to go backwards in a relationship.

The other part is, again because they are bad at understanding feelings, is at some level they do feel guilty about breaking up with you and this is a way of easing their conscious.

And finally, they think they have devestated you by doing this and this is their consolation prize.

no one knows why they do that kind of stuff. but i think if he was mature enough to acknowledge the fact that he wasn't ready for commitment you gotta at least keep that one around for a friend. but i guess it really depends on how the relationship ended. if you found out he was cheating on you, forget it. otherwise, i don't see a need to be bitter and cut off all contact

Because they are afraid if they tell you to go away you will cause a scene, throw a tantrum or worse, sneak a dead horse's head in their bed.
Don't fall for it. They don't want you as a friend. Give it up and find someone worthy.

Women do it more than men... I personally don't want to associate with women after a breakup.

Because he wants to keep his foot in the door.
That way if things work out with the girl he's banging, he's still got you. He's a player.
