here again i'm just curious so don't be rude. i've seen a lot of people dogging it as being silly or evil or fake, and i don't understand it. it's none of those things. no one takes kindly to their beliefs being openly mocked or insulted. there is as much validity to it as there is to other religions(although some of you think no religion is valid which is fine by me =]). people are so hateful and intolerant..

Wow, that Christian was pretty dang intolerant. I guess it's just the old prejudice rearing its ugly head--if Christians were able to kill Jews and Muslims and Witches in the past, I guess they think they're still entitled to at least sh!t on their beliefs in the present day. Not all Christians are that violent toward other religions, but you rarely hear of, say, violent Buddhists on a rampage to stamp out...any religion. Taoist Jihad? Nope. Radical Hindu activists? Tell me if they exist, because I don't know of any.
Christianity and Islam have a nasty reputation for dogging other people, by violence, discrimination, and the whole, "you're going to hell" attitude. They're not all violent, but you don't hear many of them speaking out against their violent brethren. If they preach love and peace, why are they so militant? I don't believe them. If they don't believe that sh!t, then they should be much more vocal about what they really believe. All the psycho violent as$holes are getting an awful lot of press.
Last time I checked, it's illegal in this country to discriminate against *any* religion, and Witchcraft/Wicca *are* considered religions. Hatred and intolerance are dangerously close to discrimination (there is some overlap.) I say, put your own house in order and stop telling other people how to live and worship, you insensitive bastards of all beliefs!
I don't agree with many religions, but I say people can believe what they want as long as they don't infringe on other people's beliefs. Christians don't get to be as$holes just because they're in the majority or think they're right. Good Christians, stand up for what you believe and speak out about bad ones! You're lazy and hypocritical if you let bad Christians do all the talking!

Because was created somewhere between 1939-1954 by Gerald Gardner as a hoax. It was exposed as fake in books like "Crafting the Art of Magic" by Adian Kelly ( a Wiccan traditionhead) and Triumph of the Moon by Professor Ronald Hutton. In the U.K., no historian takes the fantastic claims that Wicca is some sort of stoneage religion that has made it into the modern age.
When people call themselves "witches" and their religion "witchcraft", obviously no one is going to take them seriously. A witch is simply a sorcerer of no particular religion, and witchcraft simply means sorcery. The equivalent to the word "witch" has a nefarious meaning in every language on earth. This is also true in countries where Christianity is not present or a tiny minority. In India, Hindus even burn people thought to be witches and always have. The Azande of South Africa kill people for witchcraft as well.
According to Kelly, Wicca was created so that Gardner, a masochist and nudist, could be tied up and beaten naked by strong willed women. While most American Wiccans howl when you bring up Gardner's sexuality, in the U.K. Wiccans accept his lifestyle and don't try to deny it. It's hard to take something started as a sex club seriously.
Christianity has been an established religion for 2,000 years, has created hospitals, univeristies, and many charitable institutions. Artists like Michaelangelo have created great works of art inspired by the Christian faith. Wicca is a Johnny come lately, and tries to make up for the fact by creating a ficticious history for itself.

ok, witchcraft and wicca is very real and very alive, even in moderen day. I will give you that, but Christianity is NOT a joke, Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us from our sins. I see we have differnt takes on this, but it doesn't mean I hate you or think your a bad person...it's sad that some people are like that...well, my real reason for coming here is to say thank you for answering my jazz layout question, that was on my alternate account and I had forgotten about it...I hope you still got your 10 points!!! it was an awsome answer

Many people don't think that. But, ironically, many people who go for paganism and wicca do so because they subconsciously WANT people to treat their religion in a negative way. It's standard psychology: people want to feel their group is special and the best way to do this is to define the group as being different, on the fringe, or victimized. I know most of us aren't aware of these dynamics (and will HATE this answer) but it's true.

you kinda just answered your own question--x-ians are hateful and intolerant, and they attack. Wiccans are peaceful, nonjudgemental, wonderful people who are nonthreatening (except to those ignorant bible bangers who say they're evil)
Everyone takes a lot of fire on here, so you have to expect some. As ray buckland once wrote "cherish the good and forget the rest."

1.) It is fairly new, although it is based off of older traditions. People find new things, particularly in the spiritual realm, scary.
2.) The Abrahamic religions have been taught that witchcraft is evil (based off a mistranslation of the word for "poisoner".)

The average person, that hasn't studied it, thinks that you think you can throw fireballs down the street. They have no idea of what ritual is, or how or what a focus is. Ignorance of what Wicca/Paganism is, is the issue.

People are afraid of what they do not understand pure and simple. And its funny because proof of our religion is around us daily, but there has yet to be proof that most of the things in the bible actually happened.

It is the nature of dogmatic thinking to attack all that is "other." So Christians, particularly in Yahoo!Answers, spend a great deal of time attacking Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, and anyone else who isn't one of them. It's the nature of the human beast.
