From the Biotene site:

Dry Mouth is a condition known as Xerostomia. It can be caused by medications, radiation, illness, or normal aging.

Daily use of Biotène's effective bio-active enzymatic therapy helps reduce the symptoms of Dry Mouth and helps relieve bleeding gums, gingivitis, minor gum irritations, and harmful odor-causing bacteria. All Biotène and Oral Balance products are sweetened with Xylitol, a natural sweetener clinically proven to prevent cavities.

There isn't a lot you can do for the dry mouth aside from drink a lot more.

As far as the mouth ulcers go, mouthwash is slightly astringent so will do nothing more than make it worse, so avoid using it. Saline (salted water) does the same, so avoid that too.

Using chewing gum may help produce saliva, also drinking more (as suggested already), or just rinsing your mouth out with water may help. Brushing your teeth thoroughly twice a day will also reduce the risk of infection.

I'd also speak to your doctor and see if anything can be done if it's as bad as you say. Hope that helps.

Try using sugarless gum or maybe a cup of ice water that you can sip on every now and then will help. I have the same problem because of certain meds I have to take, as well. It sounds like you are on a antidepressant or some muscle relaxers such as Flexeril can cause dry mouth as well as the many antihistamines out there. Tricyclic antidepressants are probably the worst when it comes to having dry mouth because of their anticholinergic action they have on the body. Examples of these TCA's are amitriptyline, pamelor, tofranil. I use listerine and brush at least 3x a day if you experience canker sores. Time is basically the only thing that will heal the sores, about 7 to 10 days. If this condition was brought about due to your medication then you could be having an allergic reaction and it would be worth making a call to your physican to see if it would be better to try something else with less side effects. Good luck to you!

Yes. He will probably want to see you, but call your dentist or doctor, and tell him what you just shared with us, tell him you have tried the Oraldene mouthwash and also the salt water, and ask him to suggest a different course of action for you. He will also be able to get your nine mouth ulcers under control, if you can find the courage to tell him about those as well. Good strength and success to you! Basically, ulcers are going to clear up on their own in 10 to14 days. Keep your mouth clean, rinse often with water. Don't use a mouthwash with alcohol. It will dry your mouth out more. You have to be really careful about crunchy foods when you have dry mouth. The tissue tears easily. There are several over the counter treatments for dry mouth and also some prescription ones. Water alone usually won't make you feel better about the dryness. The stuff at the stores has something in it that helps lubricate the inside of your mouth, too. If you use candy, DO NOT USE SUGARED candies!!!! Dry mouth and sugar can wreak havoc on your teeth. Sugar free candies are ok, but watch out for things with cinnamon in them. That irritates alot of peoples mouths. Talk to your Doctor and your Dentist about it. The MD knows some about dry mouth, but your Dentist knows a lot more about mouths than a MD.

I suggest you see your GP asap, these ulcers could be an allergic reaction and your medication will need changing.

Meanwhile, keep your uptake of water to 8 or 9 glasses a day. After any medication gargle with water immediately afterwards and if you feel that your mouth is dry clean your teeth and your tongue and both palates to remove any residues.

What are you taking this medication for? Is it for your ulcers? Was it prescribed by a doctor? If so, go back to the doctor and complain about it, so you might be able to get something that doesn't give you this problem, or something to sort out this problem.
If you haven't seen a doctor yet, then go and see him/her now. You don't need to suffer like this.
Mean while, avoid eating sour, salty or spicy food. And try antiseptic mouth wash.

Biotene is a brand of mouth moistening products. They have gum, toothpaste, mouthwash, and a gel.
As for the ulcers Rembrandt makes a toothpaste for canker sore sufferers, it is amazing!
Good luck!

As said in a previous answer, biotene works. You might also want to try the ProHealth mouth wash, it doesn't have alcohol in it. You could ask your doctor for a medication to help you produce more saliva (its called Salagen), but since I don't know the entire situation...I'm not sure if the two medications could be taken simultaneously.
