I just put steaks in the oven, temperature is set to 400. How long should they cook? They're new york strip steaks and about a half inch thick.

I've never baked a steak in the oven - we are grill masters year round at my house. I have broiled one before & it turned out okay...Place on broiler pan & broil 5 - 7 minutes per side, checking often til desired temp.......

You should cook it until the internal temperature reaches the correct number of degrees for rare, medium, etc.

Anyway, the best way to cook a steak (simply) is to follow Alton Brown's recipe--link is below.

Learn how to cook this steak well, and you'll "rarely" order a steak at a restaurant again!

Bon appetit!

No Don't put steakes in the oven... use your broiler, the oven will dry them out, take em out hurry and broil them for 1 min. a side, cause you already par cooked them.

i don't know how many, of what type of oven (some ovens cook differently) so I would say 30 min. and then test 'em and go from there

i think that you should time them 20 minutes and then keep on checking them. i often do that with a lot of food, that i'm not sure about.
