LOLl, Corvallis is definitely NOT "dry"!
It is a university town, and it has a wonderful, quiet, ambience and lovely location along a river.
I lived 20 miles from Corvallis for nearly 25 years. It has a great library, many parks, and a small town atmosphere. Shopping is limited, but improving ... most people go to Albany 10 miles away, or Eugene, about a 45 minute drive south, for department stores. It has a wonderful grocery store called Winco with the best prices around, though, and there is a Costco in Albany.
Especially if you have a family, you will probably find the laid back pace of life and clean air a big plus!

It's great if you're a 20-something college student or you're retired - it's a typical college town. Oregon is great, but Corvallis really lacks culture - consider Eugene or Portland. If it's a country feel you're looking for there are some quaint small towns bordering Eugene & Portland that are not suburbs.
Congrats on the move - you'll love it up here!

I was just there last night for the Beavers game!
Really nice town (I live in Salem - "an hour away from everything"), The college seems to be a major part of the town. Some nice shops, etc. Probably would be pretty quiet (except on Saturdays!).
I love Oregon and cannot imagine living anywhere else; come give us a shot.

Welcome to Oregon!!!
You are going to like living in Corvallis. People are very nice and laid back. If you like the big city shopping scene, you can go to Portland which is about hour and half drive. if you like the coast , the beach is about 40 minutes away. If you like the outdoor, mountain hood is not that far away. Basically, you get to do a lot of thing within 2 hours drive.
Plus everything is tax free in Oregon.
I wish you best of luck moving and enjoy your new life in Oregon

I grew up in san diego, and then moved to a town in oregon like corvallis, about an hour and a half away. It is wet, and takes a little getting used to. But the people are sooooo nice, and it is beautiful compared to socal. I am back in the inland empire and i miss it up there, but i also miss SD. If you like smaller towns and the rain then go for it, there's also a really laid back atmosphere. But i'm 99% sure their driving will annoy you!! lol....

Last I heard it was still a dry town, but it could have changed. Lots of Beaver fans, not sure if that's good or bad for you, but I'm a Duck fan so it's bad for me. It is close to Salem, Eugene, and not too far from Portland so it's a good place to be if you like to be near big cities but not live in one.
