The reason why Muslims pray five times a day towards Mecca is because the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him) did so. He lead his life as a Prophet perfectly and was an example for how mankind should be. Of course, there are more reasons behind it such as, to always remember God, to always worship God and to be pure. There are many websites on line that explain more about Islam and it's practices. Here are some of my favorites;

Question 1 . A True believer prays without ceasing(1 Thessalonians 5:17-18) . They pray and talk to God throughout the day and hold a conversation with Him and not a planned set of words to get gain . And no building is required for the True believer , for the Bible says; the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands ; Heaven is His throne the Earth His footstool and what building can you put Him in ? and or where is the place of His rest ? Has not His hands made all these things ? (Acts 7:48-51) Question 2 The christians Everyday life is a pilgrimage. We are not of this world and are only passing through .(pilgrims and strangers) We are tried and bought through the furnace daily for out purifying and our daily life is in study and prayer to show ourselfs approved . Jesus Christ payed the price for our sins and made sacrific for us that we through Him may obtain eternal life through Faith and true belief in Him. That we seperate ourselfs from the worldly things that would bring a reproach to His Name .(Hebrews 11:13 not of this world) ( 1 Peter 2:11 obstain from sin and lust) (Romans 5:11 Atonement) ( 1 Peter 3:18 Christ suffered for sin) (2 Corinthians 6:17 Come out from them) ( John 3:16-17 God so Loved) Just a few examples

First of all, Muslims don't worship " Masjid-ul-Haraam (Kabba)" located in Mecca. Before Mecca, Muslims had been praying pointed towards Where there is Israel right now.
We pray pointing towards Mecca, just because The Almighty God - Allah Says so in The Holy Quran. Wherever He might have said, we would point it towards, and prayed. This is just like fulfilling the Divine Order. We worship and Pray Allah. He is Omnipresent.

We pray 5 times a day to remember Allah at every major time.
Before dawn, during "lunch hour", afternoon, sunset and nightime.
We pray toward Mecca because we were commanded to do so and 1.5 billion pray that way. It is the most holy city for Muslims.

I can add a very important answer here. The reason that Muslims pray 5 times per day is because they don't understand who God really is or what really pleases Him. Mohammed, borrowing from other religions such as Judaism and Christianity, started a new religion, Islam. In Islam, contrary to what Jesus Christ said, man must perform all kinds of crazy deeds to please God, similar to what Pagan idol worshipers used to do. Instead of allowing the Holy Spirit of Truth to guide them into all righteousness (John 16:13), Muslims feel that performing acts such as growing a beard or repetitious prayers can somehow save them. The Bible on the other hand says that it is through grace that we are saved through faith, and even this is not of our own doing, but is in fact a gift of God (Eph 2:8). Monotonous prayers, growing a beard, wearing a Hijab, or a pilgrimage to a huge black rock among so many other rules in Islam, can save noone! Man is supposed to enter into a communion with God through prayer out of thankfulness and love for what He did on the cross, which is to come to Earth as a man and dying as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. This is the only act which can atone for man's sin, and relying on any other act, no matter how deceivingly contrived by a man in a cave, can save us. Read the New Testament of the Bible for yourself as it expounds on the how and the why that it is not our physical acts that can save us, nor reliance on some man's contradictory Koran, but Jesus Christ Himself who saves. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed! - John 8:36

WELL THERE ARE PLENTY OF REASONS FOR PRAYING TOWARDS KABAA.
1) Before muslims used to pray towards israel, but later in Qur'an Almighty Allah told us to pray towards kabaa.
2) Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed in that direction.
3) There are lots of benifits in Praying in a particular direction.
4) Nobody would argue in which direction we pray.
5) If there is no direction, then people had to decide in which direction we pray.
6) U can't pray wherever you want, because there is a system of praying. (it can't happen... one praying towards south and one praying towards north, and it doesn't make any sense).
7) Just imagine millions people are praying at one time but in different different directions! (everyone would started fighting each other, lol).

Mecca is the Muslim "holy city" like the jews say isreal is their "holy" land. And The 5 times a day thing is similar to how many christians pray at meals and pray before they go to bed. Not all muslims do it. It depends on how much of a believer you are.

I dont remember why five times a day. Mecca is where Mohammed wrote his books of light much like Joseph Smith found the golden tablets. Medina is where Abraham sent Hagar with Ishmael and while he was (supposedly) a baby, his heels rubbed the sand and a spring welled up. This is because they follow the Ishmael line, not the Isaac lineage. This is how they do not have the kingly lineage and where it says in the Bible that the fist of Ishmael will always be against the line of Isaac. (ie If Jesus had been of Ishmael's lineage, He would have never been recognized as the Christ prophesied of in Isaiah.)
