They are like most people, they are rebelious and lost and don't want anyone claiming to know something that would cause them to have to be obedient to something. They rebel against the authority of the bible more than anything because they don't want any form of authority in their lives.

Because many people, and it does seem like a lot of them are on yahoo answers, are drawn into the worldly ways. When people get caught up in worldly sin, and run with it, it's too hard to accept the Bible. If they accepted it, then they would have to make changes in their lives....Flesh would rather sin, sin, sin.
This is why the Bible says to live in the world, but not to follow the worldly ways. To live not of the flesh, but of the spirit.

Cause the bible is written by man and not god. The bible is full of BS! It says you can kill people yet then on more then one occasion it says to "stone people to death". The way women are treated in the bible is crazy and so is the way gay people are treated in the bible. I can think for my self I don't need a bible to tell me how to live my life.
I personally don't "HATE" the bible. I just don't follow it and believe it to be true. I hate the people who are rude and don't respect others and try to push their religion on others when its unwanted.

It's no end of amusement watching Christians precondition their questions so as to suggest one particular answer which they find very convenient.
Look, buddy. We atheists don't "hate the Bible." But we have contempt for what you have made of it. We watch you thunder and bluster about Hell, and we laugh. We watch you attempt to manipulate our sense of shame and guilt (usually for things we didn't do), and we laugh.
We wonder also that you always seem to find a small percentage of people who are such nincompoops that your pathetic proseltyizing methods work on them.

Because it has been misrespresented through people who claim to know about it. Then they sit around and complain about it to eachother and it becomes a vicious cycle. If they had read the text and not taken most of their knowledge from hearsay, they would like it a lot more.

Because it "seems" outdated and hypocritical. Much of it defies logic. Plus, watch the t.v. evangelists...they do a lot to turn a logical person against religion all together.
Fire and brimstone preaching will turn most peoples hearing off. Who wants to be condemed. And needing to believe in a "savior" not just doing the right thing...is nonsense.

Because it's a book written by man over hundreds of years, from differing persepectives. It's therefore full of contradictions. At best it contains some half-truths at worst, bigotry and downright lies.
It is also used to brainwash, and control, the more simple-minded of this earth.
