I've actually read the article just below today, and I was quite surprised actually. My question is how do YOU feel about the issue?

My own personal thought is this is probably the best idea in the school system ever, I understand statistically (at least according to the study that a child is "at the safest place in school", but what exactly are staff to do when incidents like what has happened in the past, which still goes on now! School shootings, I'm sure that no one has forgotten the kids of columbine, and how the media blames it on video games, but should we ask ourselves our teachers responsible for our children as well? Honestly I would have to say yes, since the government requires them to be there. I would not have a problem with this at all, provided that each staff member that has a firearm went though special training, required to spend time on the range, and a monthly eye/range test, somewhat of like

The question again is what do YOU think, and least details why, or why not.

After all, they have armed U.S. Marshalls on airplanes now right?

spend time on the range, and a monthly eye/range test, somewhat of like (SPELL check cut this part off...) of what the dept of corrections is required to do.

I am a high school teacher and the last thing you want to do is arm teacher - although it would take care of kids getting written up for bad behaviors - there is a good chance your have more dead in the classroom. I better idea might be to put police sub-stations in schools. We use to have them in every large high school in Providence, but most of them have been either reduced in size or removed because of budget cuts.

As a teacher, I would definitely not be willing to carry a gun. It would be too dangerous to have in a classroom. If a shooter did come in, I'm not sure I would be able to shoot even if I had been trained. I think a much better idea would be to hire police officers to be a part of the school environment if they want to up safety. Teachers already have to do a whole lot all at once; being a trained marksman should not be one of those responsibilites.

Unlikely, however it is a good idea. If the gun was locked in a floor mounted safe under the desk. statistically speaking students are safer at school, but when there is a school shooting it is usually pretty bad. So having access to guns could reduce the casualties of a shooting.

Holy Crap! Are you serious (no disrespect)? I am a freshman so I just started school, and these teachers are crazy. Putting a weapon into their hands would be like allowing homicides. This one kid Jacob (wont say last name) brought an unloaded gun to school and was sent to an alternative learning center for the rest of 8th grade.

Agree with Mike. Teachers have too much responsibility already.
