First of all, how do you feel about her? Do you want to be involved romantically? Then "playfully mess around" with some flirt to it. If you want to stay friends, "mess around" but make sure to draw the line.
Second, and this coming from a girl: I personally wouldn't hit a guy to "flirt" unless it was in response to something of the like. But maybe it is to her. Ask HER?!?

Yes, she is flirting.
Yes you can playfully mess around with her, but since she's the girl you have to be gentle. Run your fingers through her hair. Go to a movie with her. When you are alone together, hold her hand. She will love that, & she may stop hitting you.

I do not condone hitting on females but the next time she hits you with a book or any object hit her back hard one good time. When she says ouch tell her to stop, I'm serious, and I do not want you hitting me period. She is flirting with you. Let her know that you are friends and we are supposed to be better communicators than to hit on each other.

If she doesn't do it to other people then it's just her way of flirtting....i think you should also playfully mess around with her but make sure your not playing too rough. and if she doesn't like it then just don't do it again

You should flirt back if you like her, but don't start hitting her on the head with a text book. There is a fine line there!
Ask her if she likes you.

it sounds as if your friend is unsure of what she wants, friend or lover. you could ask her. but first you have to decide if you want to keep this friendship platonic. if so then dont flirt too much. many a good friendship has been ruined by a quick 'kiss and fumble'. most failed intimate relationships do not end in lasting friendship. it sounds trite, but you are both young enough to 'wait and see'

Yes, I was like that when I was younger. And yes, mess around with her back but dont actually hurt her, make her seem tougher than you.

I don't know. In either case I think she needs professional help. A school book? Ouch! That's gotta hurt.

FIRST OFF, NO HITTING ON EITHER SIDE. TELL HER YOU DON'T LIKE TO BE HIT. IT COULD BE HER WAY OF SAYING SHE LIKES YOU, BUT NOT WITH BOOKS OVER THE HEAD.
