fairly some solutions state that the beggar is a lady. You suggested a begger's brother died even with the indisputable fact that the guy who died did no longer have a brother. possibly a beggar's brother died AND some different person died. In fact they were both male. The beggar was very good freinds with a Monk. Unfortunately the Monk died in a rather bizzare incident involving a microwave oven and a tube of toothpaste. He left his good friend the beggar all of his posessions. Of course, being a Monk, he had no posessions and so the beggar gained nothing. C'est la vie.
