Your best bet for student loans is to fill out your FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov). This is the beginning of the government process for getting financial aid, including government student loans.

You want to get your free money first (savings, grants, scholarships) then get federal student loans (they have the lowest interest rates and most generous repayment options) then get private student loans (credit-based loans from banks, credit unions, etc.) to cover the rest. Be very conservative and only borrow what you really need, because you'll have to pay it all back. Most student loans have tax-deduction incentives that other kinds of loans don't have. You'll really appreciate that once you're out of school and paying the loan back.

Many people have. It is a place where you can refinance your house. You need equity in the house and an established loan, they are not for student loans.
