I feel sorry for their families, no doubt. But they are against cars, tv's, and technologies of the modern age... even vaccinations. Why was she on life support? I do not knock them, I truely feel bad for them, but what are their rules? Why do they not accept our tech, but use it? I honestly do not understand.

You do not understand the Amish life, or the reasons they live as they do.
They do not use LUXURIES of modern life, because they feel that they are unnecessary, and distract from what is important; Family, Church, and Community. Most of what you, and I call necessities of life, they call LUXURIES. They are not against these things, they just choose not to use them.
They do use Medicine, Doctors, and advanced Medical Treatments when life in at stake. These people are simple Christian folks, they believe in living as simple a life as they can, and while they are not immune to the problems that plague society, they have far less crime than any other community.

When someone is brought to the hospital in critical condition, they automatically put you on life support. I am sure the hospital had the ethical committee, vote on this one. The Amish believe in the old testament, they are very simple people and have a strong belief in there religion, God will watch over them and if it is time for one of there people to leave this world, then it is gods wish, and they except it, Modern machines are not works of God according to them,I believe they will try it and when a doctor says the machines are keeping them alive then they take them off,Just like us..

no child should suffer what those amish kids did. our family is very close to an amish family there. the amish guy called our house and was liek "my neice was just taken off life support....she will be gone within seconds....pray for us." and i just cried. no one shud suffer things like this.

the reason why amish do not use tech is becuase they keep it simple. they belive that by using technology, they are entering the world, and the world is riddled with sin. think about it, the amish are simple, peaceful folk. nothing happens to them, they raise they children accordingly, and the children marry within amish, to keep tradition. if they used tech, like a TV, they believe tehir children will get caught up in gossip, and celebs and stuff. which is true.

It took a long time for the families to reach the hospitals because they won't fly. They had to get them there in cars. The emergency workers had those girls on life support long before the parents arrived to say one way or the other. We don't know the state of that young lady and her parents have the right to make that determination.

How about a little sympathy right now? Geez!

The doctors have to put anyone on life support if needed.
It is their hypocratic oath. They will try to save anyone.
They take instruction after the fact.
They had no say until they got to the hospital and then their wishes are respected.
It was not their wishes to use extraordinary measures such as life support.
It is not hypocrisy as stated in an earlier post.

It is not that they do not accept out technology. but they strive to live a simple life.

they use air tools and electric lights in their shops and factories.
they use natural gat to heat metal to shape it.

but in their homes is a different story. they use gas lights. wood stoves, horses for travel. they take pleasure in the simple things in life.

when i was about 10 i was in amish country lancaster pa. my parents buy furniture from them and sell it here in maryland.

i remember showing an amish boy my game boy that i was playing with while mom and dad were buying stuff. there were about 8 kids there. they all looked at it, and tried it out, and then each of them looked at me and said basically the same thing...
"What is the fun iin that..you just sit there and watch pictures move?"

they see life as precious and attempt to live it to it's fullest.

They are trying to seperate themselves from the rest of the world. They believe in God and the bible, but God said we are put in this world not to seperate ourselves but be a witness to the world.

They may not either.

I suppose it's up to them indivdually.

It's a real shame they were so young and innocent.
