I am going to be going to Atlanta for the weekend, so I dont have much time there. So I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what shopping area to go to, since I wont be able to go to them all. I saw that they have an outlet mall somewhere near Atlanta, is that any good?

I am planning on going to the new aquarium as well, but if you have any suggestions on other things that I should do while I am there, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hey guys.....thanks for letting me know that I need to get the aquarium tickets in advance...I would have never thought to do it, and I would have been disappointed if I couldnt go. It looks like I am definately going to check out Lenox, but keep giving me ideas...its sounds fun. Makes me wish that I had more that just a weekend!

I think the outlet malls are all too far out of the city if you are only here for the weekend, you would probably enjoy the new area "Atlantic Station" which is kind of like Faneuil Hall in Boston, except new and planned, but still nice, lots of good stores and restaurants within a few blocks, not that far from where the aquarium is in downtown, you could take a cab, the aquarium is by Centennial Olympic Park and Atlantic Station is at 17th street just west of I75/85 which runs thru the middle of the city.

If you want to go to a regular mall, Lenox is probably the most fun and kind of a bit of a scene, fun to watch the people there, it has all the regular mid range stores you want in a mall and some up scale places too.

If you would like a little more authentic city neighborhood feel you could go to a neighborhood called "Virginia Highlands" which is cute and walkable with lots of kind of quirky stores and boutiques, not really overpriced though, lots of nice little places to eat, best part is it is authentic, not planned like Atlantic Station.

I think you will enjoy shopping in any of these three areas, just get a cab from anywhere and tell the driver any of these places, they will know what you mean, I wouldn't waste driving 40-60 miles outside of the city for the outlet malls unless you don't care about seeing the city at all and really want the great bargains, in that case, the outlet mall I prefer is North Georgia Premium Outlets which is in Dawsonville, 50 miles north of the city on GA 400.

Have fun, there is certainly all the shopping you could ever want in Atlanta! OH and definitely check into aquarium tickets before you go there, I think it has been sold out most of the time since it opened, and for saturday night you could go to Felinis pizza on Peachtree Road in Buckhead (neighborhood of Atlanta) and sit outside and eat and watch everyone drive by, fun to watch how "cool" everyone is in their big rimmed cars!

For shopping, Lenox Mall is probably what you are looking for. Outlet malls are numerous, so I don't know which one you might be thinking of. What kind of items are you shopping for? I would call the aquarium and make sure you don't need an appointment. Sometimes on busy weekends, it's best to get it scheduled (believe it or not). I'll try to answer any other questions you have.

They are both right, Lenox is too cool, and huge. Plus Phipps Plaza is across the street. Atlantic Station is very cool. It has an Ikea, and if your from the south like I am, this is the first one I have been able to visit. I went to a Tanger Outlet in Commerce, it was OK. Not the best, but not the worst.

Have Fun!!

How about checking out Lennox Mall its close to the Aquarium, also don't forget to go to underground Atlanta. Both places can be reach on the Marta train from the Aquarium.
