Probably from a medication you are taking. Many meds cause a tin like or copper like taste in your mouth for a week or so.

Are you taking an anti-biotic?

Whenever I would get a filling, I would have the tinny taste for a couple of weeks. Then it goes away.

A lot of people get a coppery or tin taste in their mouth when they're running low on trace elements - usually minerals such as zine, iron, copper, nickel or molybdenum.

Some anaemics also get it when they've hit a certain lack of haemoglobin - I usually do when I hit around 8.9.

Try taking an A to Z multi-vit/mineral for a few weeks and it should make a difference.

In my experience, people who complain of a "tinny" or "copper" taste in thier mouth suffer from some form of periodontal disease, ranging from gingivitis to periodontitis, or they have leaky or cracked amalgam (a.k.a. silver) fillings.

Do you notice that when you brush, your gums bleed? Do you have broken down or very old fillings in your mouth? Perhaps very large fillings? Do your gums bleed easily? If you answered yes to either of the gums bleeding questions, it could be some form of periodontal disease, this should be immediately addressed with your general dentist. If you have broken down, or very large, or old fillings in your mouth, they may be leaky, allowing decay to grow around and beneath them. This should also be addressed with your general dentist.

Some medications cause a tinny taste in your mouth. These are common side effects of some anti depressants and sedatives. Some pain medications (ie vicodin, Tylenol #3) have reports of a metallic taste as a side effect. Drinking plenty of water, good oral hygiene including tounge hygiene, and eating fresh well hydrated foods such as fruit and green and/or leafy vegatables can help elevate these symptoms. These symptoms do not persist if your oral hygiene, water consumption and diet follow these simple suggestions.

People who are on regimines of chemotherapy or radiation, or even sometimes the drug cocktail used to inhibit the AIDS virus commonly complain of the taste of metal in thier mouth, particulary a taste of metal when they eat. Diet and water intake can alleviate this, although it may persist.

I hope this answer, all be it long, answers your question.

Good luck to you.

See your dentist- could be your old silver fillings failing. Over time the edges wear and can leak, causing new decay. Probably 85-90% of the amalgams (silver fillings) we remove in our office show signs of decay.

It sounds like you have gum disease.Work up some saliva and spit.If your saliva is discolored you need to see a dentist and have your gums scaled. He'll scrape your teeth below the gum line.Gum disease is caused from not flossing your teeth.Bacteria makes a home between your teeth and prevents the blood in your gums from flowing properly.

Do you use any artificial sweeteners? Anytime I use them it makes everything have a metallic taste for a few days. I asked my doctor and he said it is a fairly common side effect.
