I am not still quite sure why when everyone I know pops out a kid they all of a sudden think they need a bigger car. I could see not wanting to have a 2 door car anymore but if you have 4 doors really you don't need it. Yeah mini-vans have lots of room and zero personaility.
I am sorry to be so brutal but it's just one of my peeves this whole gotta get a car because of the baby. THe baby don't care you just want a new car...call a spade a spade right??
My two children fit perfectally fine in my 4 door Passat...heck I got room for one more if I wanted. And NO DESIRE to spend $ on a new car...and hell shall freeze over before I drive a mini-van.

I have also pondered giving up by beloved Honda Civic for a van. Something about motherhood changes you. A minivan/SUV gives you more space for all the stuff a little one requires. On the positive side, you save money on gas by sticking with your Cutlass. Having a baby does not automatically mean you must own a minivan or SUV. If you like your Cutlass, keep it.

You can so be a cool mom with a minivan. I got a cute little silver caravan. It has black seat covers with hawian flowers on them. I have a set of 12 inch subs in the back (it's loud). My windows are tinted and everything. Older moms might think it's dumb to do, but hey I still have to act my age in one way or another. Good luck.

Hey, it's just your God given motherly instincts kicking in. Your 2 year old is blessed to have a mom that cares about her safety. But, I understand the problem with the mini-van. They are kind of 'frumpy'. There are other mini SUV's that can be safe, cool looking and practical as well. Honda CRV. Ford Escape. Hyundai Santa Fe. Kia Sorrento.

What you drive doesnt make you a cool mom. Spending time with child (as much as possible if you work) and having fun with them. That is what makes you a cool mom. I have two kids (which are 11 and 9) We have the best time together, we sing and dance and play games. (But they still know who is boss). I try not to embarass them and talk to them like real people with an opinion and feelings. I respect them and they respect me. My daughter feels like she can talk to me about anything (which is great) and I have heard her tell her friends that I am cool. My son lets everyone know who his mom is (instead of trying to hide it). I have had the minivan, its great!!!! Lots of room for strollers, diaper bags etc. (and when they get older, football and cheerleading equipment) Just remember to be you!!! Your child will love you for it.

the kind of car you drive bears no resemblance on whether or not you are a "cool mum"
minivans are practicle for large families, and now that you're a mum, you'll be amazed at how much practical thinking you start doing!
For exapmple, you might see an outfit you have wanted for EVER is suddenly on sale, but your brain will step in and say "but we really need to replace the vacuum cleaner"
Welcome to motherhood!

Well, for me, for starters ... Definitely the saying "no" to my sibling thing. Saying "no" my older brother, especially when he starts to nag to much about any & every little thing. I strictly get that quality from my dad. Just like dad, I don't like putting up with anybody's crap. That's also included when it to dealing with siblings. Except, in my dad's case, he had 6 siblings to deal with. 5 that were older than him, along with one younger than him. I only have to deal with just one sibling. But, it's still a pain to deal with at times. Especially when he spends time trying to lecture me, when in reality, HE can't even get himself together. Mind you, I'm talking about a 36 year old man here ! But, he acts like a little brat ! Always crying & whining whenever he doesn't get what he wants, when he wants it. Especially when it comes to money. A guy who works 2 jobs, & still chooses to whine to mommy & daddy for money ! He's nothing but a big baby !!! He's almost 9 years older than me. 9 years minus 22 days, to be exact. Honestly, especially for these days, I think that's where my low to zero tolerance for whiners comes in.

Soccer Mom's ARE cool. And you can't beat the space a minivan offers.

Minivans are really convenient with multiple children. Until then, enjoy a smaller vehicle.
