Expect about $700-900 depending on your departure city. Airfares, especially to AK, have gone up a lot in the last 4 years. If you see something much better than that, jump on it.

To get to Anchorage (and then connect to Fairbanks, Kodiak, Nome, Kenai, Aleutians, etc):

Alaska Airlines flies from the West Coast, Boston, DC(expensive), NYC, Orlando, Miami, Denver and Chicago. Mostly through Seattle.

Northwest flies in mostly from Minneapolis

Delta does flights from Altanta, at least during the summer. Also Salt Lake City.

Frontier Airlines flies from Denver.

Each of those airlines have connections to/from those cities listed above (the ones with non-stops to Alaska).

For SE Alaska (Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka, Wrangell, Peterburg, etc) you have to fly Alaska up from Seattle.

Check on Expedia.com or travelocity.com for an overview and price comparison. If any carrier I mentioned above isn't listed (Frontier?), check their website directly. I ALWAYS book with the airline directly. If I need to change/rebook/modify I don't want to have to go through Expedia or Travelocity - I want to be able to do it on-line, by phone AND at the airport.

Southwest does NOT fly to Alaska.

It really depends on where you live. Or at least what airport you are flying out of. What is really best for you is to be flying out of a city that has a hub for an airline. For instance if you live in Atlanta where DELTA has a hub, it is much cheaper to fly from there. That will at least get you to Anchorage or Juneau. It is normally cheaper at the individual airlines websites as well. My favorite is American Airlines and Delta. Maybe even Alaskan Air

Well, it depends on where you're flying from and where in Alaska you want to go - but the cheapest most likely would be Alaska Air - it is costly to fly to Alaska - you might check SouthWest airline's website - not sure if they fly there.

Also, google flights to Alaska - you might get more info there. I fly Alaska Air every 3 wks from Oakland, CA to Bellingham, Washington - they are the cheapest & they're the only airline that goes thru to that city.

Good luck - Alaska is simply beautiful. :)

In Southeast Alaska we have only one Airline, Alaska Airlines. Occasionally they have specials when they lower the price of tickets but the cost per mile is still high. You pay as much to fly to Seattle from Juneau round trip as you do to fly across country round trip from Seattle.

" TREE TOP AIRLINES" don't get nervous though when the pilot sells you the ticket, meets you at the plane, takes your ticket, delivers your pack of peanuts and then comes on the intercom and asks all passengers to "please lean forward on takeoff"...LOL
