I've always wondered this because my mom always told me that God always hated a "proud look". But is it wrong to have school spirit???? or in any case... ANY kind????

Pride in your school, pride in your children , pride in a job well done is different from being prideful about oneself. Pride in self is what God dislikes.

Good question! There are 2 different kinds of pride- one is good, the other is bad. God hates the bad kind of pride, which is what you have when you are haughty, feel like you're better than everyone else and aren't very humble. The best example of this is the story in the Bible where the tax collector (which most people hated in those days because many were dishonest and collected too much money), and a pharisee (kind of priest, religious person) are both together praying in the temple. The tax collector is over in the corner, crying out to God, asking for forgiveness for having been dishonest in his career. The pharisee is standing up as he prays, making sure everyone else hears what he says, and calls out to God saying "thank you God for making me not like THAT man" (referring to the tax collector). The moral of the story is that the pharisee was the proud one, and the tax collector is the one that God forgave because he was truly repentant.
The other kind of pride is the good kind- it's healthy to have! If you do well on a test, you are proud of yourself, right? There's nothing wrong with feeling good about something you have accomplished or are excited about as long as you don't let it get out of hand (like the pharisee did). So, don't feel bad about your school spirit. If your mom doesn't understand this, try to explain it to her. Thanks for asking!

I think that you misunderstand the command. God doesn't want you to give mean looks or make evil faces at other people. You cannot make yourself look better by tearing down other people.

As long as you are not putting down other people, I don't think that there is anything wrong with a little healthy pride in yourself or your school.

Don't take it to that extreme. It's just that when pride turns to egotistical self love you have the problem.

School pride is about competition with other schools and is healthy. Just don't go doing anything bad to the other school, then you have crossed the line of "Pride".

Have fun, but don't get crazy and do immoral things.

The line is thin --- but here it is:
You must not boast of thyself. If your mother is proud of you, or if you are proud of your school team, you aren't boasting. You are proud of God's creations. Now if you are proud of yourself because you love the way you look (vanity), or if you're proud of yourself because of the riches you have gained, this is the wrong side of the line to be on. Be loving, be generous, be divine. You sound like you love God and worry what He thinks about you, so don't worry ~ be happy :o]

Ye do (proverbial) err. It's the LORD who hates in Proverbs 6. God isn't into hating anyone, rather into loving everyone. God is a perfect and merciful love-er; And thereby into "reconciling" the world he so loved, not into alienating it nor into destroying it.

My advice to your mom is this: it is preposterous order to teach first and learn after. Scriptures were written aforetime for our "learning": Rom 15:4. As for what JC said Hosea said God said, it's repeated as a go figure in Mt 9:13: "Go ye(do err) and learn what meaneth I will have mercy, and not sacrifice"; And the "not" part is not then, not now, not ever with God never desired sacrifice for sin, nor ever took pleasure in such law law.

If you're old enough to read, read the Bible for yourself.
But not an NIV, for such leaves out the grace us ending:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Having a proud look is about being arrogant, it's not about taking some pride in what you do or how you look.

having pride in a group is not as bad as being proud of just yourself because the pride is directed toward your friends and teammates rather than just yourself.. it's still not very good though.. people should be humble..

Pride in self is what the Christianity beleif discourages. You can not acheive anything by yourself.
to have pride in your school, family, heritage is a vicarious pride... a pride that is found outside of yourself.
I have a vicarious pride that I am a christian.
