If I buy my meat in bulk (like from Sam's Club) and then seperate it into ziplock bags and put it in the freezer, how long will it last before becoming freezer burned?

Meat is only good in the freezer for about 3 months. Look at it because if you have meat that has like ice on it then just throw it because it will taste like the freezer when you do cook it. Always remember to date the ziploc bags when you put them in the freezer so you remember what it is suppose to be and when you put it in.

Beef 6 months
Polutry 3 months
Fish 3 months
Meats with a higher level of saturated fat will freeze better than those with a higher level of unsaturated fat. Hamburger will have the shortest fresh life of any meat due to the grinding and exposure of more muscle surface and fat to the air. also when placing more than one item in the freezer to freeze lower the temp as cold as it will go because you want to freeze the stuff as quickly as possible to avoid ice crystals from forming . When you add more than one item in the freezer the temp. goes up so put it on coldest setting a few hours before you go shopping. Then freeze the stuff as soon as you get home. Also remember to rotate the stuff you have up there and only use the ziplock bags that are meant for the freezer.

I have not had good experiences with meat in the freezer. It usually is freezer-burned when i go to use it and the taste is awful. Now this is storing it in the original store packaging also. So I have learned to buy meat and use it before the week is up.

generally meat lasts in a freezer for like 6-16 months. that is if you have a decent brand of freezer bags. such as glad or ziplock.

If it is frozen with no air in the bag and if it is completely seal . It will never get freezer burt but it is only good for 2 to 3 months.

now vacuum packed.. 6 months... that's it.

regular zip lock.. even if it's a good ziplock... 2 months.. and that's pushing it.

a real high quality tupperware and the meat is wrapped separately in wax paper and packed nice and tight... still 2 months.

make sure the meats are not touching one another so they don't stick and degrade themselves in the process of storage. seemingly to keep the materials packaged and separated (not touching or adhered to one another) tends to lengthen the preservation process.

:D

OH almost forgot.. the more marblized the meat or the more additives that are in the meat such as burger patties that have bread and soy in them have a tendancy to freezer rot faster.

happy eating!
