He's back to "can i borrow a pencil", "What's tommorrow's homework", and "Want a chip?" at school. ARGH! My friend says he just doesn't know what to do in public, so he just goes with time-honored tradition. Is this normal? and if not, what does it all mean?

Your friends are probably right. Try leading him into to doing something else. Or maybe HE JUST NEEDED TO BORROW A FREAKIN PENCIL.

How do you expect him to act. He is a teenager not an adult. Heck even adult men still act like babies.
They dont grow up. Live with it

The reason he is acting this way because he is comfortable with you. He doesn't have to impress you anymore because now you are his girlfriend.

You can't change him until AFTER you marry him, so calm down a little for now
