Hi, I am a architecture college student at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I am a very motivated individual and I want to start my own car dealership. I feel that school is holding me back from starting my own business. Someone told me that without a four year degree people would not take me seriously but I really don’t see why they wouldn’t. So I guess my question is if I should follow my instinct and start my own car dealership without the four year degree. If there are any people out there that own their dealership where should I start?

You do not have to have a degree to start a dealership. You do have to have good business sense because you wont want to go under. I know a man that never went to school past elementary and he is very very very successful in the restaurant business. Follow your dreams always. As far as starting your business you will need a building with a lot in a great location. And a lot of capital to get you started.

A four-year business degree would certainly help in running any business though it's hardly a mandatory requirement. About all you really need is a dealer's license and a business license. And a source of start-up capital of course.

You need some business classes to know what you are doing. Won't take 4 years. Banks may not approve any loans for the cars if you don't have any experience, or plans.
