If you got pulled over in the future, why would the police take you to jail if you had an unpaid Red Light Camera Ticket on your record?

The red light ticket is the only traffic violation that is civil instead of criminal, doesn't even count as points on a DMV record. They can't even be sure you got it in the mail since no steps are taken to have it signed for (which you would have to do to serve a lawsuit, you can't mail it). Are they seriously going to take a person to jail if they happened to get pulled over for something else? I highly doubt it. Has this happened to anyone?

For all of you about to scold and harrass me, i was in the intersection for 0.5 seconds - read for yourself the reports about how they shorten yellows, which increases ticketing from 20/month per intersection to over 200. Read the meeting minutes yourself on the net. You will also find, of the top 20 dangerous intersections in SD, only 2 have camaras, the other 18 are in more affluent areas.

Meh, if it were me I would just pay it. but I did hear that in houston, they wont be actually going after those who dont pay, but watch out in the future they might be sending the unpaid tickets to collections, so that could hurt your credit.

first it is an infraction not a civil issue and and unpaid one can become a misdemeanor and it dose count as points on your record. If you were to get a ticket from an officer and not pay it you would have the same issue of being arrested for failure to pay tickets. The reason tickets have gone up in areas with the camera is because there are not enough officers to sit at every intersection to go after people running them, the cameras have cut down on accidents. If you can prove that you were legally in the intersection when the light turned red then you can fight it.
By the way i have gotten a red light camera ticket i actually payed it and went to traffic school so i would not get points for it. I ran it i thought i could make it but i did not so i payed the fine unlike you if you want to ignore the laws you deserve to get arrested

I would just pay the ticket. I know you feel you were unjustly ticketed, but if a police officer had seen it and pulled you over the results would be the same. I wouldn't chance them not taking me to jail if I was pulled over for something else. And are you sure it doesn't go against your license? It is a moving violation and a hazard.

It will look far worse for you later to have jail time for an unpaid ticket than for you to have received a ticket and have paid it.

Running a red light is not a civil violation, it is a criminal, traffic violation. Which by itself is not enough to get any jail time, but when you dont show up on your court date or pay the fine, then you have bumped up the offense. You will get a warrant for your arrest and will have to be hauled into court to pay the fine and most likely additional penalties for the bench warrant.

Personally I would take a picture of a check or money order for the ticket and send them that.

if you get a ticket and do not pay you could be issued a contempt warrant it just adds up more and more.
