No that will only cause more grief and more of that is not needed. I have nothing against the NRA either but guns and school do not mix. Some self defense training might be helpful here but guns have the potential to be used for the wrong situations, the wrong reasons no matter who is holding it. Not teaching kids that telling is "ratting" would go along way in finding things out before bad things happen to more good people. I used to have a nun as a teacher everyone jumped to attention and she had an empty holster! Maybe Cops could teach then they can wear a gun during Home Ec.

Okay i am very pro gun and hunting. I think that the NRA means well but to much pressure on someone who has been a member and no longer wishes to be. mydad was a member for one year and didn't renew his membership and was sent three notices. the final saying. "if you do not renew your membership we WILL lose our firearm rights." thusly i don't support The NRA. And as far as the teachers totein pistols i think that they should be aloud to if they have a concealed weapons permit and are good citizens that don't have a criminal record etc. it is a personal thing and if a teacher does choose to pack heat I think that they should have to fill out a form so that parents can acces it andrequest that their student not have that particular teacher if it can be accomodated should the parent think it inapropriate that the teacher do so.

The first thing that popped into my head was that a certain percentage of teenage testosterone bombs would take this as a challenge to either acquire the weapon for themselves or to have an O.K. Corral brand shootout. Either way, it would be a disaster. Plus, another percentage of students would be resentful that the teacher had that kind of power over them. Others would just be intimidated and fearful. It would certainly impact the primary goal of teaching and learning negatively. So I guess my answer is No.

Interesting question. Before reading the article, I would have probably said teachers should not be armed. But really, it makes sense.
My school has about 1,600 kids and only 1 security officer. It's not enough.
But do I really want to carry a gun? No.
But at the same time, do I feel very safe at school? Usually, yes... but sometimes, I worry.

Seeing that teachers could be overpowered by a small group of thuggish students - this could effectively arm dangerous kids, the mind set that seeks to kill others, not your average student mind you.
Given this possibility it would be far better for teachers to be armed with something less lethal.., more like a stun-gun or pepper spray.
Given the increased risks in todays bazaar world, teachers need to be able to defend themselves from students who lack the ability to control their anger. A teach (nor students for that matter) should not have to live in fear of their lives.
I already know why this trend is set in motion, but I would like others to consider that in my day - school shootings of this order were NEVER heard of. So you have to go back and decipher what is it that todays students are subjected to or deprived of .., in relation to what students of some years ago, may of had or not been exposed to.
Something is turning out a seedling generation of suicidal and dangerous kids. I leave it to you to investigate and figure it out for yourself.
I will say that we did have "optional" prayer in school. My theory is it left some sense of right and wrong among the students. We had fights and bullies, but obviously something in todays generation sends these students over that fine line, students in our day would not cross.

Teachers are just that, teachers. Their job is to educate the students. They are not law enforcing bodies. Teachers have neither the skill nor the experience to handle a weapon in a serious situation.
If something like that were to happen, innocent people would end up injured, they would end up using it in the wrong situation, or a student would get their hands on the weapon and use it on everyone else.

Teachers carrying weapons is indeed scary. However, a teacher wanting to protect the students and themselves is not as scary as an intruder coming in who wants to kill people and is the only armed person around.

Abso-friggin-lutely! LOL
Actually, I think that depends on a lot of things, one of the most important being that not everyone knows how to handle a gun safely. I think it might add an element of danger that wasn't already there.
Self defense, however, is another subject. Teachers should be required to take self defense classes.

Having teachers carrying loaded weapons is only asking for more trouble. There is always the occasion where a teacher gets stressed out and snaps. Then what? You still wind up with a shooting spree. This idea needs to be put out of commission and quick!

We in basic terms could ban all weapons, yet how would we do this? I agree and dissagree. I agree that instructors and administrator needs a weapon to shield themselves and college, yet what if the scholars triumph over the the instructor and the administrator? the two way, it rather is problem. the only way that our babies would be risk-free is to have securities at college and on the front door. i'd agree on checking the e book bag for weapons. Now days, securities are could to guard out babies at college. college may be the main secure place to be, yet no longer anymore. the government needs to concentration on securing our college. it rather is getting rather frightening, yet i can not be annoying too various it.
