I have a huge cage i purchased. But no macaw yet I would like to be very knowledgeable before buying a parrot I have done a lot of studying but would like more info and good web sites to look up. I want to know what I am doing before buying my friend for life. I have ben talking to a breeder who is going to train me but the more info the better.

Ask yourself if you’re going to want one and what condition you will be in to care for one 50 years from now. They have the curiosity and intellect of a 3 year old child, only they don’t grow up. Imagine having a 3 year old for the rest of your life and you’ll picture life with a parrot.
There are many people in situations where they must give up their birds due to health, lifestyle changes, moving, etc. Look for some adoption sites and see if you can’t adopt a bird that desperately needs a home rather than increasing the numbers already out there.

Sally Blanchard has written many books on this subject and they are wonderful! We have hand fed a green wing, adopted anothe and our third macaw is a blue and gold. I am partial to Penny Jo, our blue and gold. She is friendly, loving and has a good vocabulary...and she loves ME! Usually birds will pick their favorite owner. If you are the only owner, that kind of limits it! When you say your breeder is "training" you(?), you don't plan on taking an unweaned bird home, do you? Bad plan, unless you are VERY experienced! I have a blue and gold macaw they are very noisy ,demanding for your attention and verrrry messy. They are beautiful, like you I always wanted one but now I wish I had never gotten it. They are also very expensive to feed....Sorry but I wish you well in what ever you decide. Sorry........
