Social and emotional aspects of our lives have a biological effect on our bodies. So whether we're lonely (social, which can lead to depression which is biological), upset (which releases adrenal gland hormones which triggers a "fight or flight" physical response), happy (which releases endorphins and serotonin to make us feel good physically), they are all intertwined.

And if we neglect our physical needs, we have less energy and motivation for social needs and it can impact on our emotions as well.

The mind and body aren't separate... they are linked in numerous ways and each affects the other.

By the way, Maslow's hierarchy has nothing to do with linking the needs together, it has to do with satisfying more base needs (food, shelter, etc.) before we can even begin satisfying higher needs such as for love, respect, intellectual stimulation, etc. We don't even consider higher needs if our basic needs aren't met because they are all consuming. Who cares if you're in love if you're hungry? But the hierarchy that he proposes says nothing about linkages between them.

According to Abraham Maslow and his theory of Hierarchy of needs, a person must first must have their physical needs met first before they can move on to others.
The first need after physical would be safety, then belonging or emotional need, the last would be esteem before achieving the ultimate in human growth which he called self actualization. I hope this helped you. God bless..
