If I was on medicare and a Cat scan was used to diagnose cancer, would medicare
pay for a second opinon i.e. a second reading of that scan by another doctor? And how would I go about seeing that this is acomplished? who would I contact in medicare
to do this? Is it likely to take very long? Thanks for your help.

Hello;

First of all, it depends on ur age. Now, if u are on medicare, I'm not sure if it would pay for that. U may want to ask ur doctor about it. But if u are not on medicare, then u or ur insurance may end up paying for that , if u have any health insurance.

On the other hand, if the scan is made by another doctor that is accepting the medicare coverage, your best bet is to ask that doctor to be sure.

But if u are not sure what to do, u would probably want to contact medicare directly. .. U can probably do a Google search to find their phone number on the Internet.

Anyway, good luck and I hope I had helped a little. If u can accomplish it, or resolve it, please email me to: mariopcgames@comcast.net

I have always said everyone is entitled to a 2nd opinoin. Get the films of your CT scan. Nowdays, they are on a disk and take them to whoever you want to take them to for the 2nd opinoin.
It is your right. your health and your peace of mind depend on it. Just call the hospital or the place where you had the CT scan and ask for the films or the disk, and go get them. Tell them you are getting a 2nd opinoin and make sure when you go to the 2nd opinion you take the report (reading) to the doctor with you.
It can be as fast or as slow as it takes you to get the appointment with the doctor. Make sure you tell them when you call, it is for a 2nd opinoin. Ask them what you should bring with you, and arrange to get these from your physician or your hospital.
If your doctor is offended because you are seeking a 2nd opinoin, he is not worth having and should be terminated. Remember the physicians are providing you with a service you are paying for and they should not treat you poorly for asking for another opinion.
I am an Oncology RN.
Medicare pays for 2nd opinoins. Ask to talk with the doctors office manager and she can get you that information. Dont be shy. They deal with this stuff all of the time. They want to get paid as much as you want to know what is going on with your health. They will ask you what kind of insurance you have when you call for the appointment.

Yes, with permission. Contact the Medicare Ombudsman for your area or read your Medicare handbook. Another good source is to contact AARP and find out about the AARP group in your area. They can usually guide you.
