I stopped smoking for the third time in August 1998. and was around thirteen stone then. At that time I was 36 waist,my woman came back from Singapore in the October and the trousers she brought me were to small. (Anyone want a pair of grey flannels size 36") I am now size 40 and have a job to bend over, and eat less than half what I did, no fast foods and definitely no McDonald's. I am now fifteen stone, lost 3/4 st in the heat of the summer when I stripped and re-roofed our house but it's back again, but my cough has gone.

Smoking speeds up your metabolism very slightly, so when you stop it will slow down, therefore making you gain weight a bit more easily. It will level itself out after a while, and carrying a few extra pounds is far more healthy than all the poison you were putting into your body while you were smoking. Congratulations on giving up, it's not easy!

right from what i have been told by a stop smoking adviser is that smoking speeds up your metabolism so when you stop smoking and your metabolism slows down you put on weight which is apparently you natural weight.
