well, make it fun! make it into a game or something where if he gets the answer right, he gets candy or something like that! Flash cards are cool, and sometimes if u make up a song about the answers, you can memorize it. I did that when i was trying to learn the 7 continents and the months of the yr.

This question is in the Preschool section. Either you have a very young student, which means he probably doesn't have the attention span, or you put this in the wrong category, lol!

My brother in law is a french teacher. Try getting some pop music from France and letting him see some of the advantages to the French culture. Perhaps that will interest him in studying the language.

Obviously he is forced to study the language! It is very difficult to teach a student who is not interested in the subject. But perhaps you can instill the interest by showing some interesting french movies, music or talk about interesting facts about the country first. Once he appreciate the people who speaks french and their culture and other interesting facts, maybe he will want to learn the language.

Get some French games. Perhaps also books in both English and French, the traditional one being the Little Prince.

Try to establish a connection with student. You say 'my explanations' and note his faults. Work with the guy. Try flashcards or break out his family picture album. Relate something already present in their life to French. I remember Mireille from French In Action. She was HOT!! That sure made me pay attention.

Just got out of a teaching class I am taking regarding this. There are basically 8 different ways people learn. He may be visually oriented, meaning he needs to see it, socially oriented, where he needs to have some time with others, or logically oriented, where it needs to make sense in how he understands logic. Try getting a relationship going with this guy (with proper boundaries) and see where his interests are at. Then use them to get a better grasp on his learning style, and find some creative way to make it click in his way of comprehension.

Be creative!!!! Music. Drama. Dance. Flash cards. Wordplay and verbal teaching. It is not a difficult. It requires imagination and creativity to teach some people. Not everything in life has to be taught by a book. Visual and audio stimualtion are just as effective.

Some people don't like to learn languages. Others have fun when they are doing something practical with it or are asked to write a report on something cool en francais.

Give him something to shoot for. You know an award, or something he likes. As an incentive. You learn this much and you get a ???? something fun or inexpensive, just something to light the fire under him. You don't say what age he is, but everyone needs an incentive to do something they don't really want to.
